For fans who grew up watching Dale in a certain era, this is a tie that’s almost as big as getting United was. The games and rivalry over that period of about 7/8 years have gone down in legend with the hostility and noise on the Longside living long in the memory. A different time for sure, but it’ll be good to go back.
We never wore that kit combination at any other time during that season. The plain blue socks appeared from nowhere and for all anger on the terraces and the pitch that day, mine was directed at our kit man for never using them again.
Unfortunately I won't be able to go, but that's a cracking draw. As long as we put in a decent performance, everything you say below is spot on. I hope I follow start to offer live video coverage for the later rounds & at least I get to see it onscreen
For those going, hope you have a great night ( I'm sure you will)
In the carefully edited clip posted elsewhere on here, it carefully does not show exactly why Alex Jones attacked John Francis. The clip starts after that point. Francis cleaned Jimmy Graham out and off in violent style which, outside a football game, might have been regarded as common assault at best and actual bodily harm at worst.
Graham went off injured, and Jones came on as sub (TVOS will correct me - I have a sometimes hazy recall of this match). It was clear he was going to equalise John Francis directly, at the earliest moment.
Though I am not an advocate for violence, Jones' only failure was to leave Francis still upright.
