Why is the quality of beer on offer at football grounds so bad?
I haven’t had a beer at QPR for a few years as it’s that bad. You’d think bottles of Carlsberg would be ok, but they’re rank.
I was at Wembley on Tuesday for the Italy match, and all what was on offer was bloody Budweiser. That is the worst beer out there. It’s bloody horrible. The FA are just being greedy taking whatever money Budweiser are offering, and giving the fans no choice but that shìte.
I’ve been to a few Wealdstone games, and they have a great selection of beers in their club bar. It’s cheaper too for much better quality of beer.
I know Wealdstone’s bar is used for parties and whatever, but a non league bar puts Wembley and football league clubs to shame.

Was at Wembley for the NFL recently and not only was it Budweiser, but it was advertised as pints or half pints and it was actually somebody standing there opening multipack cans of the stuff and emptying them into plastic glasses for £8 a time.

Budweiser is pi*s beer and they have financially melted down in the USA with their Bud Light cluster fu*ck so they are trying to milk English fans for every penny . Does anybody know the beer selection at Spurs stadium because that was designed with NFL games games basically going forward on a pretty permanent basis. Like I mentioned before drinking at any sporting event , concert etc is a horrible rip off yet a financial windfall for the venue .

Spurs have a link up with Beavertown who have a microbrewery in the stadium. Prices were reasonable last time I visited (£4.50 a pint) but that was a few years ago.

Spurs have got a beavertown brewery on site, so it's Neck Oil etc.
Wembley is already showing its age horrifically in terms of customer service on the concourse - was with Clive for the NFL game, and as he mentioned, it was canned budweiser. but worse than that, they had no setup for delivery at all, so you you ask at the counter for 4 budweisers, and the minimum wage guy trudges over to the table at the back, opens four cans from a blister pack, pours them and then hands them over. there's no-one doing the pre-pouring or having 50 pints ready to go, it's so inefficient.
in comparison, was at the Spurs stadium for the NFL games and they're like lightning - proper selection of beers, got the fill from the bottom widget so it's super fast and comes out like a pint, and they had plenty of staff doing the filling up at the back so delivery was instant.
I know that spurs is the first 'American style' full service stadium in the UK, but the difference in experience between that and Wembley was night and day.
Can we not knock it?

Leyton Orient used to have a real ale bar, don't know if they still do and I'm told Ipswich sell Adnams. Beer and music generally awful at football grounds. A lot of people drink just what is advertised on TV. I was in Spoons just now and a bloke came to the bar and said with a knowing smile “pint of Bud please” as though he was ordering some nectar of the Gods.

That's nuts, a scene straight out of an unlicensed warehouse rave.
It's all about money, a captive audience and the drink offer not being anyone's reason for being there. Big breweries have it all tied up on exclusive deals and it's much easier and more profitable for the venues. Personally I'm not drinking anything I'm not going to enjoy, simple as that, but I suspect I'm in a tiny minority and most will neck whatever if there's alcohol in it.
I think QPR must be in the bottom 10% out of the English clubs. Really needs someone to revamp the bevarage offerings and staff training. Warm bottles of Carlsberg absolute joke.

Was at Wembley for Jaguars v Falcons, I managed to find a bar selling Hells so had a better experience. Food and drink options were well below par compared to previous years though. A particular lowlight was a shockingly bad hotdog that I had to download an app to buy... bloke yelling at everyone in the queue that you weren't allowed to ask for a hotdog, you had to order online...

There’s a real ale bar in Ellerslie Rd but it just serves Green King EPA or similar now. Better than Carlsberg but only just and I haven’t bothered with it yet this season. I think they had Hobgoblin and Shipyard on in the past which could be half decent. My favourite ground for beer was Brighton which was serving a lovely pint of Harvey’s when I was there. Also I seem to remember Butcombe being served at Bristol City I think.

Bristol have a Guinness bar in the away end. If I ever go back ( don’t start) I’d rather just go straight to the ground and have a pint there. Decent food, too.

Why would anybody buy beer at football grounds? You know it's suite, expensive shite at that. There are decent pubs, serving acceptable beers within easy walking distance of most grounds.

As others have mentioned, beer at many non league grounds is infinitely better. The Peckham Pale at Dulwich Hamlets is superb. It makes no sense to me why league clubs don't support local breweries. It seems to me it would be a win, win, win situation, benefiting supporters, the club and the local community.

I once spent a very pleasant post-match session in that Orient bar - I think it's actually a Supporters' Club Bar, but a mate got me in - and the beers was indeed excellent: great selection of real ales etc, well-kept and served, which explained why it got (still gets?) CAMRA awards etc.
The beer at Burton Albion was also very good, as befits the Home of British Brewing.

'Neck Oil' was apparently named after Robert Plants dad who used to say to his Grandson Logan Plant (founder of Beavertown) after he asked where grandad was off too. "To get my neck oiled" was the reply.
