In the end teams almost pick themselves, sometimes tweaks are needed but just because they don't work for say a game against tough opponents there is no reason to just stop what was working against lesser teams.
Martin wanted his system to work we had a number of injuries but the re-jigged team won us a number of games in the second season came up against the first Burnley game and changed things, some were enforced but he never went back using the same players that worked because we had a couple of lucky wins after the Burnley game but went downhill there after.
As for this season Patino was doing well in the midfield but but the team was asked to adopt a defensive set up against Leicester which just invited pressure onto ourselves Platino was made the scapegoat but there was a number of players on the right handside who had shockers and there was just no communications, it was a long time before Platino had proper game time after that, bit like Congreve first start under Martin.

Wood is a good player it took him time to get back to game fitness but you have to look at the way he had been asked to play. Virtually no movement in the middle of the park and if anyone did show the only option is back to the centrebacks because the full backs have been asked to push up too early leaving no gaps out wide.
If Wood has made his intensions clear he wants to go, fine but let's make sure we get what we expect for him if we don't get what we want then see the transfer window out and offer him a different contract, a little more money may sweeten his demeanour even persuade him to sign an extension.
