He actually can't call one. Needs a vote in Parliament first. (Think the earliest that could happen is about 6th September). Then you need a couple(?) of weeks to clear up Parliamentary business, election then held about 4 weeks(?) after that at the earliest I think.

(BRR would be your go to on the time table for this)

Think he'll want election first week in Nov, so we fall out of the EU by default with no deal, just before voting, cleans up with the Brexit votes.

Got Cummings dirty fingerprints all over this. If there is a GE in the next 3 months it'll be nasty.

"One recipient described the email as “posturing” and said special advisers, known as “spads”, are being used as part of the PR war to convince the public the government is serious about no deal."

Think that paragraph sums it up. September could be interesting.

Why would Boris want an election at this juncture?

Isn’t there enough going on politically right now 🤔

Quite a few reasons Lala.

On paper even with the support of the DUP (who'll probably be looking for another bribe to keep supporting the Government), he's only got a working majority of one. (It's actually more than one, as some of the so called Independent MPs will back the Government). There are rumours of some remain voting Tory MPs planning to defect to the Lib Dems or just going Independent as well.

If you have a GE, say first week in November then we could leave the EU with no deal on the 31st Oct, and Parliament wouldn't be sitting to stop it.

He's stuck with May's manifesto pledges, a small thing, but it means anything his Government tries to do, Tory MPs will feel fairly free to vote against or abstain, and the Lords can also block, as they aren't manifesto pledges.

If he thinks he could lose a vote of confidence, it would look better if he "jump" first, and got Parliament to vote for a GE, rather then losing one and being forced to.

It'll come down to simple maths in the end, if they think they can pick up enough seats to compensate for the ones he'll lose. (They'll lose most if not all of their 13 MPs in Scotland to the SNP and about 10/15 MPs in heavy remain voting areas.)

Cheers Red. Lots of possibilities then.

I thought he’d be using all his resources to prepare us for a no deal at this point. Apparently not then!
