Former Newcastle Star Thinks Pace Will Worry Swans

Newcastle United will arrive in Wales this weekend to take on the Swans and former magpies player Robert Lee believes that the pace in their squad will have enough to worry us.

It is a bit of a rare situation for us this weekend as we will go into the game as favourites when we normally tend to be the underdogs and that brings its own pressure to an extent that we will have to work with.

We will of course though go in full of confidence following the brilliant draw we got at Chelsea last weekend and certainly with the optimism of the fans behind us having started so well.

We can certainly class ourselves unlucky not to have started with a win against the odds last weekend and we face a Newcastle side that had their own 2-2 draw at home to Southampton.

Lee - who was part of Kevin Keegan's squad that almost won the Premier League in the mid-1990s - believes though that there is a new wave of optimism in the North East after they only just survived relegation last time around on the last day.

“The new sense of positivity will be tested to the full on Saturday, though,” Lee wrote in his column for the Newcastle Chronicle. “Swansea City showed what a tough proposition they are at Chelsea, and are even better at home.

“Garry Monk’s done a great job there, following on from Michael Laudrup. They’re organised, and pass the ball very well. Newcastle won’t see a lot of the ball, but that could play into their hands.

“United suddenly look like a side who can break quickly, with Moussa Sissoko, Georginio Wijnaldum and Gabriel Obertan.

“If they’re on song they’ll be a threat. Swansea are good but they’re not invincible. Let’s see how they cope with real pace.”
