Sheffield United v QPR Betting Preview
Sheffield United v QPR Betting Preview
Friday, 13th Aug 2010 20:51 by Andy Hillman and Brian Power

The Betting preview made a triumphant return to LFW last week with a small profit made between the two pundits.

<p>

Andy burst onto the scene last week with a £47.50 win back the R's to beat Barnsley, and would have been pretty confident his first goalscorer bet was going to come in as well only for Helguson to step up and take the first penalty instead of Taarabt. Still, a £17.50 profit in week one is not to be sniffed at for the newbie. No winners for Brian this week although with a £10 refund on Buzsaky as a non-runner, and £34 quid live it was only a tiny loss of £6.

The big boys enter the football fray this week and I am sure Sky will tell us this season starts here. Well it doesn’t as we are top of the league and out of the cup already. Our trip to Sheffield will be difficult but I think we are capable of getting all three points although the 7/4 on us to win doesn’t appeal. Instead I will go for a 2-1 win with Tarabat to score first. Adel was sublime last week and if he can play like that and not lose his rag he could be the ticket to the Premiership.

Work commitments have left the time to research thin on the ground this week so I am going to keep things really simple and have a horse bet and a couple of footie acca.

I was going to attempt a joke about this horse being the real thing but I fancy Captain Coke to win the 3.20 at Newmarket on Saturday.

For the weekend:

£5 QPR to win 2-1

£10 Tarabat to score 1st goal

£10 win Captain Coke 3.20 Newmarket

£5 trebles and £5 acca

Huddersfield 1/2

Rotherham 8/5

Palace 7/4

Gillingham 13/8

Previously Advised:

£2 Lucky 15 and £2e/w acca

QPR to win Championship at 12/1

Huddersfield to win league 1 at 8/1

Rotherham to win League 2 at 12/1

York to win conference at 12/1

Well after our 4-0 win over Barnsley last week (and I did say I was going heavy on QPR, as we were all but guaranteed to win…) we now have a sterner test of character against Sheffield United. I can’t see past a draw for this one, so I’m sticking a tenner on a 1-1 draw, which is 11/2 across the board. I also expect Sheffield United to score first and QPR to come back from behind, so I’m sticking a fiver on Half Time Shef U, Full time Draw, available at 16’s at Sporting Bet and 14’s everywhere else.

Elsewhere in the Championship, with Coppell resigning at Bristol City, I’m jumping on Doncaster with a fiver at 11/10 to get the three points at home on Saturday, and Norwich are currently 7/4 across the board to beat Scunthorpe, which seems quite long odds – Scunny did well to beat Reading and Norwich shouldn’t really have lost to Watford in the opening round of fixtures, and I still see Norwich as the much better team here, so a tenner on an away win seems worth the risk.

As we are all well aware, the football season ‘starts’ this week, and looking at the Premiership market fixtures I can see a draw-fest, which is good for multiples as draws are usually around 3.5 or 7/2. I make it a rule that my accumulators all kick off at about the same time, as there’s nothing worse than the first leg of your accumulator letting you down before the other five have kicked off. With this in mind, the odds on a fourfold accumulator of Villa vs West Ham, Blackburn v Everton and Bolton v Fulham all drawing, and Chelsea beating West Brom is currently 39.56 on Betfair – that’s 38/1! So I’ve stuck a cheeky tenner there as well…

For the weekend:

Sheffield United 1 -1 QPR - £10 @ 11/2

Half time Shef U / Full Time Draw - £5 @ 16/1

Doncaster to beat Bristol City - £5 @11/10

Norwich to beat Scunthorpe - £10 @ 7/4

4 fold accumulator - Villa vs West Ham, Blackburn v Everton and Bolton v Fulham all drawing, and Chelsea beating West Brom - £10 @ 38/1
