Alan pardew has been sensationally sacked by Saints.

A brief club statement issued sometime after 8am on Monday morning confirmed that Alan Pardew and his coaching staff have been sacked by the Club, with Dean Wilkins taking temporary charge in the short tem.

Although speculation has been rife, indeed on this site I commented that the next week could be crucial for the manager, it came as a total shock, coming as it did after an emphatic away win.

Rumours were rife at the end of last season that he was about to be sacked, but for one reason or another he seemed to have ridden the storm, it is very strange that it has now happened and the timing may suggest that the replacement has already been lined up, possibly prior to the weekend. 

Whilst I have always expressed the view that Pardew's season heare last term was "reasonable" rather than good or great as some supporters would claim, I also stated that he had done enough to show that he was moving the Club forward and should continue this year, it now seems that that pace is not quick enough for the Chairman.

kcaj1164retsof added 09:57 - Aug 30 I am shocked and disappointed for Alan by this decision which continues the disasterous policy of changing coaching regimes on a regular basis. This policy is why we find ourselves where we are today, in the third tier of football. This squad is well good enough to win promotion this season and it is AP's team, no matter who is appointed as his successor. Regarding who will be the new manager, many famous names will no doubt will bandied around, but, in my view, not many Prem or Championship managers will do what AP did and take a punt on being associated with a third division team, no matter how wealthy. This will be the 3rd manager under NC in 13 months!

Pinner_Saint added 10:23 - Aug 23 Completely agree. The team has the same old problems from last year. Games against Brighton (h), Swindon (h). Wycombe (a), Brentford (a) and Brighton (a) summed up last year. With the players at AP disposal we should be bold in our team selection and tactics. Saturday again was the same old story. We are one dimensional and now have no pace as provided by Antonio and Papa last season. NC is an impatient man, 5 points dropped so far, 2 league games to sort it out AP, then calls for Shearer.

emigrant added 10:14 - Aug 30 AP was on Premiership wages with a transfer kitty which was the envy of the rest of the division. Players on wages which other clubs could not equal yet as Pinner states results have not been delivered. We have begun this season with a team most realise is not as good as what we had at the end of last season there lies AP's problem. Football is a sport which prospers on greed and as long as the carrot is big enough managers will queue to fill AP's boots. AP will in all probability have his contract paid up so he won't be too unhappy.

grampy added 15:27 - Aug 30 It's the timing that puzzles me with the transfere window about to close and I believe another two still needed to back up the squad. I have heard that AP has been saying that if he moves on he would take Lambert and Lallana with him, no idea if this is true.
