Awful, turgid game.
Austin needs one other player within 20 yards of him otherwise he has absolutely no-one else to pop the ball off to, and becomes ineffective.

Someone remind me, what's the point of Jenas??

The longer it went the happier Brighton were to settle for a draw. Interesting to see them playing out from the back so much, which seems a bit risky but with only Austin up front they got away with it...most of the time.
Although Barton's delivery is better than previous seasons still a bit inconsistent to me.

JJ is the invisible man...

1. Selection

Spot on at kick-off given injuries etc.

2. Formation - conditioned by injuries

I'm never happy with 1 up front at home

With 5 across the middle why didn't we get in more crosses with their twitchy defence ? - the few deliveries from the bye line always resulted in corners or possibilities

3. Substitutions

BEA's debut was, in the context of the game, outstanding; looks fit, slotted in seamlessly, good going forward and confident. Nice one Harry

If you asked 100 QPR fans to name 100 QPR midfielders, Jermaine Jenas would be Pointless.. Faurlin would have delivered more

Traore the right sub for the tiring, not-yet-fit Phillips - who, BTW, looks the business..

B&HA

Wrong to say they were typical Championship side looking for a point, they have an appealing passing game. Defence jittery in the first half, couple of unforced errors could have cost them. They only hit the keep-the point-button in the last 20 minutes; great travelling support

Overall

After 70 minutes I felt we ran out of ideas and they wanted the point.

Lack quality without AJ, Hoilett, Johnson injured

Another clean sheet so Green & Co (Defenders) Ltd are happy

The most underwhelming top-of-the-table moment I can recall in decades of hooped fan-dom - except that it primes us with anticipation

Good display in Valencia. As we played a lot of the reserves in Valencia, Britton, Williams, Davies, Shelvey and Routledge all well rested so should be fresh for Palace. Great game we could even sunbathe while we watched the match as the ground was uncovered at we were at the top! Nice to be cheered and clapped by the home supporters who were all waving white flags and hankys as there own players. Not sure what happend to all the Valencia fanatics behind the goal. They completely cleared their seats at half time and only came back when we scored our second. Funny time to take a fiesta.

A new chant from the Swans' as their player was sent off adios adios adios.

Improved performance from the Brum game. Just needed a bit of luck infront of goal. Austin does a lot of work and looks like things will fall into place for him
Felt we needed some more creativity-not sure where that will come from Defense were solid-Harry has bought well At last Phillips looks to be alive
This was two point lost-Brighton were not very good and are a shadow form the Poyet team
Appreciate the warm appreciation of the Under 18s from the away fans-Well Done
Oh yes Barton was greta -he lost a few passess but great to see him fight to get the ball back-was close to a sedning off

What a great atmosphere for a mid week game and we are top of the table!!

I had this down as a home win, I must confess! Well done, and up to fifth as it stands.

Liverpool 0 Southampton 1

The televised Saturday 3pm kickoff match throughout Africa and the other not so important non UK countries in the world was Liverpool, and because support throughout the world is still based on the 2005 “big four” the bars and restaurants were packed yesterday with fans ready to witness the re-emergence of a sleeping giant, this was the day Liverpool would establish themselves as true Championship contenders. However, what they had not taken into consideration was that this Ugandan correspondent was wearing a Southampton shirt shrouded in magic, stored for 13 years, signed by the mercurial magician himself, Matt Le Tissier, and worn proudly for the very first time. Liverpool were powerless against such a force.
Of course there will be the Scouse whingers, “we should have had a penalty”, “Moses didn’t fall over every time he got the ball, he was fouled”, and the ever popular “if we had Saurez, he would have bitten them”, but the truth hurts, Southampton are class and Liverpool aren’t. Liverpool fans should be grateful that they now have a goalkeeper who can keep the defeats to a respectful margin.
As for Southampton, the defensive frailties that dogged them last season have dissipated with the arrival of Lovren, the competent Boruc in goal has resigned the calamitous Davis to the bench, the exciting England U21 full back pairing of Clyne and Shaw, and the surprising emergence of Fonte, cool under pressure and a master at positional play. In front of them are the steel barrier that are Schneiderlin and Wanyama, those that sniffed at the latter’s price tag are now asking why their club didn’t invest in Kenya’s star player. Midfield is completed by the skilful Lallana and the penetrating running of Rodriguez, while up front the pairing of England’s Lambert with Italy’s Osvaldo is still in its infancy, but the potential is there for all to see. The Manager, Pochettino has added another dimension to the team Adkins designed by the astute purchases of the missing pieces, a top class centreback and a midfield enforcer, Cork had the passing ability but not the muscle of Wanyama. But where Pochettino really scores over Adkins is his ability to read the danger signs and make substitutions to counteract the threat. A talent that was wasted against a Liverpool team that couldn’t create a danger sign, let alone a goal.

There seemed little doubt that we would win this after the great start and Michu's goal. We were in control from this point forward and a thoroughly deserved three points and the end of a fantastic week on the pitch. 7 points from 9 now in the league and back in the top half of the table. Roll on Wednesday and Birmingham

Bloody hell we were poor.

However, Green is looking now like the confident keeper he once was, Dunne is a monster, perfect for this division, and credit to Austin who has kept battling, and was spot on with the penalty.
