Just to add to the general impression of a more professional and business like approach to fans, got an email today confirming renewal of STs (I'm an existing ST holder paying by monthly DD). Link to the website to check details, all correct. Can't remember this happening previously.
A little thing, but all these little things showing a greater attention to detail are most welcome. |

I'd have to agree with almost every word there. Had a quick look online for what price the Tories to end up with less than 100 seats and the best price is 3/1!!
Listen to the members of the public being interviewed. Not one appears to suggest they'll vote Tory. Even died in the wool Tories will find it hard to actually vote for them, and more likely abstain.
I also share your concern about what the Conservative Party will look like in 5 years. I suspect it will be a more extreme UKIP/Reform in all but name. I just cannot see what Labour can do that will make things look any better by 2029/30. |

Anyone at LR for our last few games knows how special the atmosphere was. But on a practical level, atmosphere doesn't pay the bills.
I'm not for a minute suggesting we need a 60,000+ seater stadium, and obviously we need a site that would work for us, but it seems pretty clear that we do need a stadium that offers us much better than we currently have. Is it beyond the ability of a decent architect to come up with a new stadium that could combine the spirit and feel of LR with the practical financial requirements of a modern day multi purpose complex? |

Went along for the Champions Cup rugby yesterday. First time at their new stadium, and a few thoughts/observations:
The stadium itself is absolutely awesome. Seating, atmosphere, food and drink outlets, merchandising outlets, facilities all top class and imho probably better than Wembley. Sold out stadium and none of the concourse felt in any way cramped or uncomfortable.
Draught beer options a little limited, Heineken or Neck Oil, obviously no Guinness was probably a bit of a glaring miss, but vodka bars, gin bars, whacking long bars to get your beer.
Food was a bit meh I thought, pies, sausage rolls, hot dogs, none of them much better than average really. Interestingly, the staff behind the counters probably not very much more inspiring than what we get at LR. I guess getting decent quality staff for one day every other week is as much a problem for them as us. But obviously a lot more of them yesterday, so maybe the quality of service depended a bit on who you got.
We are probably better placed for transport options to and away from the ground. WHL or Bruce Grove, otherwise it's a long walk to Tottenham Hale of Seven Sisters.
i don't know how long it took to get planning approval for the redevelopment of the stadium, but bang in the middle of a busy town centre, getting it done strikes me as quite an achievement.
Bottom line I suppose is that it's an excellent facility for making money; reputedly the club reckoned to clear a profit of £1m on each match day from hospitality when the stadium opened, and that figure must have increased by now. The stadium will have paid for itself within 10 years I'd imagine. |

I'll tell you this. Watching Gazball nearly finished me with this club. 51 years being part of my soul, and I got to the stage that I was embarrassed and depressed coming to watch them. Only reason I kept with it was to have some time catching up with my son that I wouldn't have otherwise had.
So for those of you who think I'm a bit hard on jolly old Gaz, in a year where I have the shock of my second marriage break up from nowhere, and the not quite so unexpected death of my mum, if he'd lost me my love for this lot, it wouldn't be his sodding wellbeing that would have been my primary concern. |

I think that's a pretty decent view of things, but be in no doubt it's one that any of us could only take now we have survived this season. If we'd been relegated, I fear the effect at the club would have been catastrophic, and no one would have been quite so sanguine.
The depth of the trouble we were in is illustrated by the fact that although MC had us achieving form and results of a top eight team, it took until game 45 to confirm our survival.
The fans may now treat GA with whatever respect they wish for his time as a player, and I have no problem if they want to forget about his stint as manager. But the people running the club should never ever be allowed to forget not only the impact of his appointment, but the process of managerial appointments last season.
Beale being allowed to dictate to the club who stayed and who went should never have happened. Critchley's appointment was not only the wrong man at the wrong time, but took a sodding eternity to confirm during the time where we had a midseason break for World Cup, so we had been afforded a decent amount of time to get it right. Stunk of complacency. And having been interviewed and turned down (so I believe) prior to Beale and Critchley, Ainsworth's appointment simply should never have happened. I remember someone asking whether GA was interviewed prior to Critchley, and being told by the guy at WLS that yes he had, but there was as much chance of him getting the job as you or I. Bad decision upon worse decision upon "Push the f@rking red button" decision.
Make absolutely no doubt that we got away with it big big time this season. There is no place for complacency, or confused and indecisive management at any successful business. We've been given a massive chance to start putting in place the building blocks to get it right going forward, particularly if we get an Eze dividend. The support appears to be growing, and youngsters are beginning to join the fanbase. This is a moment of big opportunity for us, and we must take advantage to show lessons have been learned, and to make the club "better" in every single way. |

With respect, you spent all of last Summer telling everyone who expressed misgivings about Ainsworth that they were wrong, so it's a bit disingenuous to tell everyone to stop talking about him now.
The truth is that bloke brought the club to the brink of a ruinous relegation through his ineptitude and lack of managerial and tactical ability. I don't need inside information on how Willock was treated by Ainsworth, it was there for absolutely everyone to see through his benching, his 95th minute introductions to games already lost, and Ainsworth's complete inability to develop a game plan to suit not only Willock, but the majority of the squad, assembled to play passing attacking football. I mean using Eze speaking positively as an example, I doubt Ebs has ever said anything nasty about anyone in his entire life.
Ainsworth lost his job, a job he was never qualified to be given in the first place, because he was not delivering, simple as. Within 5 weeks, MC had us playing, and that included Willock scoring in three consecutive games. 5 weeks. The person who was responsible for Ainsworth's appointment, we are led to believe, was Amit, and he apparently issued an apology to the fans for having to go through this season, which I think is a tacit admission of his part in the whole debacle of Ainsworth's appointment.
Finally, if it takes me or anyone else reminding everyone of the potential consequences of making such boneheaded and clearly unsuitable appointments so it doesn't happen again to us in the future, I'd happily be on here every day doing so. You may see it as spilling blood, I'd have the stats of this season before and after Ainsworth hung in the offices of the Chairman and CEO if I could. |

What I am saying is that if you are employed as a Formula One car mechanic, and you have to report to a manager who tells you that what you need to do to fix a problem with the engine is smack it with a wrench because that always used to sort your Ford Escort out, then you are not going to have any respect for that manager, are you?
The players have copped a lot of abuse over the last few years, but in the space of one season they had Mick Spiel, Neil Nice but Boring, and Mike Bassett appointed to manage them. It's not entirely surprising that some may have struggled to keep the faith is it? So for those that did, fair play to them, but a lot of the problems have not been down to them. |

Part of the art of management is understanding that certain characters need handling in certain ways. I don' t think Ainsworth had the tactical acumen or the interpersonal skills to bring the best, or anywhere near it, out of Willock.
I'll tell you straight, if I worked for a manager who had clearly been appointed to a role way over and above his capabilities, I wouldn't wear it either. It isn't good enough to say, "well you're being paid a lot of money to perform, just get on with it". If I'm good enough to be paid a lot of money, I'll go somewhere else where my talent is appreciated and treated in an appropriate manner.
We have avoided being ruined for years to come by the skin of our teeth. The fault for that would not have sat with Willock, it would have sat with the shocking appointment of Ainsworth. |

You know, I think we also shouldn't forget that he was disgracefully treated by Ainsworth - how much has that bloke got to answer for?
I will say what I said last week; if he is playing for a new contract elsewhere, then I have full admiration and respect for the way he has applied himself over the last month or so, because with his injury record, he's taking a big risk. His injuries have taken months at a time out of his career.
The idea that we might be able to persuade him to sign a 3 year contract with an agreed release fee, with a view to selling in a year at a profit does have merit. But I think that the likelihood is we would be able to replace him more cheaply than resigning him. As has been said elsewhere, there are likely to be plenty of other fish in the sea |

I think we shouldn't underestimate the fact that it's a Friday, people are finished work for the week and I wouldn't mind betting 90% of our lot were in a pub around Shepherd's Bush for 2 hours or more before the game. We didn't just dominate them on the pitch. |

I mean, it would be outrageously ambitious, but I wonder if the club might think about making him an offer too good to refuse to retain him long term, to allow him to develop the club in his image? I don't know, some kind of share ownership maybe? |
