Well Done Warburton/Hoos - Let's Reap the Rewards Next Transfer Window 08:21 - Aug 9 with 2005 viewsHastings_Hoops

Following some brillinat business by Warburton, Hoos and Ferdinand in this transfer window which appears to have generated £8m - £10m of net player sales and more importantly potentially an additional £2.5m - £5m on reducing the wage bill (eg, 10 players out / 10 players in on lets say £5,000/week less); you would hope that this has achieve the goal of balancing the books for the next year.

If this is the case, you would also hope that the balance will shift in thee next transfer windows to being a seller's market if interest is shown in Eze, BOS, Lumley, Leistner, Hall, Manning, Barbet or Scowen and we have now reached a point of commanding higher figures for our best players.

Well done Warburton, Lee and Les - they've done the hard work.

From our side of the bargain, let's get behind the team and hope that some of the players really kick on and command a value of £10m - £25m next summer! Sell three or four of them next summer and we could generate quite a nice transfer budget for Warburton next year.

Or Warburton's successor - rebuilding an entire squad because you don't fancy the last manager's signings isn't cheap.

Part of the transition surely must also include sticking with MW , come what may. Along with Lee and Led appointing a successor who plays the same style, should MW be sacked or enticed away... That is when the DOF model will really be shown to be working?

Point being that we won’t be a ‘distressed’ seller.

I agree with the sentiment, that the squad clear out and renewal has been a financial success.

The key will remain results on the field, and the maintenance of expectation amongst the fans. the win at Stoke has got a few carried way, whereas I think most of us have us down as lower mid-table. Achieving even that should be seen as success and not something we should be bombarding the senior management team or owners with tweets to get MW sacked. we have some very fickle fans!

Why stop now, just when I'm hating it

Individually there look to be some good signings but still nervous that integrating them all at once is going to be a real challenge.

Also a bit worried that all the talk was about how much we needed to raise through sales, but we look like we’ve spent far more than intended, so have we kept under the FFP wire? Or has the club made a calculated gamble that a points deduction might be worth it to get better players/more points?

Thinking about BOS, does anyone know if there's an option to extend his contract by a year?

If not, that's going to be the next thing to do - get him to sign an extension for a couple more years without some low-ball sell clause being included in the deal.

We have a one year extension clause which means he's effectively with us till 2021 (according to Dave Mc)

I do hope this is a success as it's the sensible way forward.

It's nice to have what fans see as their own set of signed up players but the greatest threat to most clubs in recent times has been getting stuck with 3 to 4 year contracted players who you find are rubbish but you're effectively stuck either paying them not to play or integrate them into a side purely because they're a costing a fortune in wages rather than being any actual form of asset.

The advantage of loans is you can off load any that don't fit after a season and, as has been the case, can quite often tempt them back if they were a success.

It's also good to see players coming through from our youth system, but what I think is almost a 20 year gap between Langley and Furlong suggests it would defy logic to try and build a side around that.

Financial sense in this league now dictates that the days of 3 and 4 year contracts will be numbered for most clubs. As long as we're in the EFL we just need to get used to that.

19 out (3 on loan) and 15 in (5 on loan). So nett result is 4 players less, about 8m nett profit and almost certainly all the incoming on lower wages than the outgoings. So from a financial point of view, we probably did as good as we could have.
