The rush and desire to play some football is just ridiculous now. FOOTBALL. DOES. NOT. MATTER. It can wait.

I agree. The premier league (backed up by another set of journalists who have not covered themselves in glory) had lost their marbles.

talk of provided 2x covid tests per week per player and staff.

For what reason? To kick a football around and ensure they don't have to pay back TV money.

Offers little value to the wider situation

I think if they do that while the rest of us and particularly care home staff etc. aren’t getting at least the same it will be the end of the Premier League.
All this talk about it being a boost to moral is bollox. It’s about money
If footballers are tested regularly and we are still getting reports of nhs and care home people dying without it will turn people so far against football there’ll be no recovery

You are right it is about money and if the NHS and indeed the country is going to be able to get through this crisis, then the economy needs to be kick started.

So lets get away from the popular viewpoint that we should not be playing football whilst people are dying and look at what the plus points could be

1. If the Premier League agreed to pay for a NHS worker test for every test it conducted on those needed to put to the televised game then that would be 3,000 tests paid for a week, that wouldn't touch the sides but if they used some of the advertising revenue then that could make a difference.

2. If 500 staff are no longer furloughed and then go back to work then that is money that can be rechannelled by the government into the NHS, dont forget here we are not talking about just the 200 or so non playing staff at the stadium on a matchday but those behind the scenes at Sky and the media.

3. Advertising , this kick starts the economy and gets people back to work

Truth mention the return of football and people foam at the mouth and start talking about those dying, yet talk about reopening B & Q and they are down there queuing around the block.

No one in football is talking about re starting if it is not safe, but we have to look at the bigger picture and look to how we can move forward, but all I see are people who are jumping on the high horses.

It is clear that this will last longer than we first thought, but that doesn't mean that plans should not be made, they can always be altered and cancelled, yet people scream about it now, not knowing what things will be like in 6 weeks.

The government can only borrow a limited amount of money to support businesses and furlough staff, the economy has to be kick started.

If you want to talk about people dying in care homes then consider this, the minimum price of care home residency is around £3,000 per person per month, why is it this, because most care homes are run by private companies and the minimum local authority grant towards these fees is just below this, the average is around £4-5,000 per month.

Most care home workers are paid minimum wage, so a return to football wont make much difference to death in care homes, what would make a difference is these private companies actually using some of their massive profits to by the proper medical facilities.

The problem in the care homes is not the government it is those companies.

The only way we can continue to fight this disease is through the economy being re booted, otherwise a lot more will die in the next winter when the government has to stop wage subsidies and people cannot afford heating.

In six weeks time we will know whether it is safe to resume football, so lets see how Germany goes and how we are doing in the UK as well , plans have to be made in advance we have to be pro active not reactive

Football clubs, Sky and the Premier League can say whatever they like. Ultimately the decision on whether to resume playing football lies with the Government. I'd be amazed if Johnson gives the go ahead. He continues with the ban then so be it the general public will support him. Lifting it for the Government is incredibly risky. If he does and increased cases of the virus are shown to be linked to football matches then he is finished. The Government could fall if they make the wrong decision and anyone who works in government either national or local will tell you they are generally risk averse.

Stay in. Safe Lives and Support the NHS is the mantra and will continue to be so.

Everything depends on what Merkel tells Germany's regional leaders later today. If she calls a holt to the Bundesliga today - it's game over for the PL.

In the mean time France have announced their current season is over and have crowned PSG as champions.

Also Netherlands, who share a border with Germany, have also cancelled their season, but I don't think they crowned anyone as champions.

Every country is different, so let's just see. I don't mind Germany being guinea pigs, but just because Germany could resume successfully, it doesn't mean that we necessarily will.

I have spoken to people in Slovakia today and they said that there was talk of them resuming their football season on 10th June. They as a country went into lock down in the middle of March and despite a population of about 5.5m, only have a reported 1,391 cases and just 22 deaths. Like the Czech Republic, they will soon be starting to open more shops (excluding the large shopping centres).

I see that certain players (Sergio Agüero and others) have come out today voicing their concerns over health issues with resuming football - saying many of them have a family/kids. Clubs can't force players to play. As for Saints; what would happen if 2 or 3 of our better players didn't want to play? If you've got a richness of talent at your club, it isn't such a big deal of course... but no Ings wanting to play? Redmond? Whoever?

The other concern is fitness. Players will have kept themselves fit during the lock-down - but none of them are going to be 'match fit' after months of no football. What would public opinion be if players break a leg or suffer serious ligament damage due to ill-timed (not match fit) tackles & get rushed off to hospital to take up much needed hospital resources at this moment in time? Injuries happen all the time in football of course, but in normal times it isn't an issue. Not sure the general public would take too kindly to having millionaire footballers adding to the workload of the NHS right now... at a match with no fans, no atmosphere, no point and purely for TV revenue!

Players may express concern, but they are expressing it on the current state of play not what it will be in 6 weeks time, if it is deemed medically safe then they will have no choice or face being docked wages, we will then see whether they will play or not.

It is the players like Aguero who will kick up, they can afford to make a stand, mostplayers will get on with it because they will take the advice from professionals not newspaper headlines.

Fitness isnt a problem, the timescale isnt much different from a normal summer break.

The PL are meeting today and I guess we will know more later about 'Project Restart'.

I'm still not convinced players want to spend 8-weeks away from their home/families - in a hotel - with chefs, maids, housekeeping, etc in close contact... which, if it is under those restrictions even in June, will mean the country still isn't "safe".

Another thought...

would spitting on the pitch, under the current situation, mean an instant red card?
