Rules
Basic stuff
As always, there will be no first-to-post tie-break deciders, only most spot-ons. However, remember you are only allowed one exact match prediction with each one of your group members for this entire round (1st and 2nd legs together), so first to post may be a factor in this regard.
If I spot too many exact matches I will do my best to give advance warning, but please don't rely on me to do this - you must watch this one yourselves too.
3pts for a spot-on result, 1pt for the correct outcome (home win, draw or away win). All predictions are the result at the end of normal time, extra-time and/or penalties will not count.
Round of 16
Top two from each Group will go through. If a tie-break is needed in any Group, and given the usual attendance prediction is likely to be futile, the tie-break prediction will be the total number of goals scored in League 2 on March 20th (the Saturday after the final Champion's League matches).
Only those involved in the tie-break will need to make a prediction, so this can be done any time before the first League 2 match kicks off on the Saturday (Stevenage v Carlisle is currently scheduled to be a 1pm kick-off). The closest to the right amount will win the tie-break in their Group, so obviously you can't predict the same amount as another Group member. First to post will count here if necessary.
Quarter-finals
The Group qualifiers will then form two mini-leagues of 4, and play off against each other predicting all of the Quarter-final matches. Mini-leagues will be comprised as follows: Winner A, Runner-Up B, Winner C, Runner-up D and Runner-up A, Winner B, Runner-up C, Winner D.
Semi-finals
The top two from each mini-league will then be drawn from a hat to play off in head-to-head matches, all predicting the semi-final matches.
Final
The finalists will play-off predicting the Champions League Final, this will include predicting different aspects of the game, not just the score - and will be submitted as concealed bids (via PM to me). Should I be fortunate enough to still be involved in the competition at the semi-final or final stages, a neutral third party will be found to do the draws and/or receive the finalist's predictions.
…and finally
It remains to be seen if FIFA will keep the two-legged approach for the post Round of 16 phase, depending I guess on how Europe is faring in the pandemic. Like last season I may have to tweak the rules for these rounds to provide more scoring opportunities, and indeed any further tie-break questions after the Round of 16 - I'll keep you posted on those.

Week 1 of the U'sual Champions League concluded last night with a 2-1 victory for FC Porto over Juventus, and a solid 3-2 win for Borussia Dortmund at Sevilla.
Group A
There's no change from the conclusion of Tuesday's fixtures, as no one in the group managed a single point last night. This leaves myself top on 3pts, unitedwhites on 2pts with two outcomes, and thrillseeker on 1pt with a single outcome.
Group B
Mfb_cufc maintained first place, correctly predicting Dortmund's away win last night. Sevebalo did likewise, to register his first score, to stay 1pt behind mfb_cufc. Sector4 has yet to score, but with 12 games go, still plenty of opportunities to catch the top two.
Group C
With the FC Porto 2-1 victory spot-on, ghughes11 moves ahead of burnsieespana into first place. Burnsieespana drew a blank yesterday evening, allowing Daniel to draw level with the Dortmund away win.
Group D
The result of the night has to be durham_exile's spot-on prediction of the unlikely 3-2 away victory for Borussia Dortmund at Sevilla, which added to his previous two outcomes leaves him comfortably top of the group on 5pts. Concordman and TheFatGooner do their best to keep in touch, both with the correct outcome for the same fixture, but it's looking ominously like they're in a fight for second place at the moment.
Just a reminder, Week 2 predictions are still needed from sevebalo, ghughes11 and Daniel.

This evenings fixtures have finished with a 1-0 victory for Real Madrid at Atalanta, and another away victory for Man City, 2-0 at Borussia Mönchengladbach. The group tables at the halfway point are as follows.
Group A
I hold on to first place for now, with both away wins tonight and Bayern's last night, for a total of 6pts. However, unitedwhites keeps the pressure on with the same three outcomes for second place on 5pts. Thrillseeker loses a bit of ground, only predicting last night's Bayern away win and tonight's Man City away win, but on 3pts it is still very close in the race for qualification.
Group B
In one of the performances of the week, mfb_cufc storms well clear at the top, correctly predicting tonight's Man City 2-0 victory and Real Madrid's away win, plus Bayern's away win last night, to top the table with 7pts. Sector4 does well to keep in touch with three outcomes (Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Man City) for 3pts in total, but a no-show in Week 2 from sevebalo leaves him a very distant 3rd on 1pt.
Group C
Ghughes11 finds his second spot-on prediction tonight, with the Man City 2-0 victory spot-on, added to the Bayern Munich away win last night, to stay top on 7pts. Daniel does well to keep in touch on 4pts with both outcomes tonight and one of the few to predict an away win for Chelsea last night, easing one point ahead of burnsieespana in third place with the Man City and Bayern Munich outcomes for 3pts.
Group D
In Group D, concordman equals mfb's best score this week, also with the Man City result spot-on and the Real Madrid and Bayern Munich away wins, to move joint top with durham_exile on 6pts. Despite being the form horse up to now, durham_exile picks up a solitary point for last night's Bayern Munich away win, but draws a blank this evening. This gives TheFatGooner the opportunity to close the gap with all four outcomes in Week 2, to move just one point behind on 5pts. | |

The Week 3 fixtures, the first batch of second legs, has finished as follows:
Borussia Dortmund 2 Sevilla 2 - Borussia Dortmund through 5-4 on aggregate
Juventus 2 FC Porto 1 - after normal time, the game eventually finished 3-2, with FC Porto going through on away goals
Liverpool 2 RB Leipzig 0 - Liverpool ease through comfortably, 4-0 on aggregate
Paris Saint Germain 1 Barcelona 1 - all PSG had to do, winning 5-2 on aggregate
Group A
wessex_exile (apologies for the third-person) stays top with 10pts, after getting the Liverpool victory spot-on, and Juve's normal-time home win as an outcome. Coming up on the rails, thrillseeker also scores 4pts, with the same results in reverse, to go second on 7pts (courtesy of the spot-on tie-break). It's still very close though, with unitedwhites also on 7pts with the same two matches as correct outcomes.
Group B
UCL giant mfb_cufc stays top of the group on 9pts, with outcomes for the Juventus and Liverpool home wins. However, in the performance of the week, Sector4 moves into a very close second on 8pts, with the PSG 1 Barcelona 1 result spot-on, and outcomes for the same two Juve and Liverpool outcomes, scoring 5pts in the process. Doing his best to stay in touch, sevebalo gets a point for the Juventus outcome, but after missing Week 2 faces a mountain to climb to qualify.
Group C
ghughes11 stays top on 9pts, also getting 2pts for the Juve and Liverpool outcomes. However, Daniel plays a blinder with the PSG Barcelona 1-1 draw spot-on and the Juventus home win for 4pts, to move within one point of the top. burnsieespana keeps in touch, scoring two points with the much-predicted Juve and Liverpool home win outcomes to move to 5pts.
Group D
durham_exile moves clear at the top on 10pts, with the Liverpool 2-0 win spot-on backed up by the Juventus home win outcome, for an equally impressive 4pts in Week 3. Also with the Juve and Liverpool outcomes, concordman stays in close contention on 8pts. TheFatGooner gets another point courtesy of Juventus's home win, to stay in touch on 6pts.
Two reminders - firstly ghughes11 and Daniel in Group C are yet to predict Week 4. Do please pay close attention to other predictions and permitted exact matches (highlighted yellow) you've already had.
Secondly - if anyone finds themselves in a tie-break situation after Thursday, it will be to predict the total number of goals scored in League 2 next Saturday, closest wins. You can't predict the same as your opponent in a tie-break, and if you happen to be equal closest (either side, obviously), then first to post will count.
