First off, congratulations to all the qualifiers, and commiserations to those who didn't quite make the cut. This will be the 12th season of the UCL, this time including former champion BFG (two-times winner, and second highest point scorer), burnsieespana, and of course current holder concordman. Making a welcome return after 5 seasons are MrHappy2 and Tropical_Us, and from 4 seasons ago gerry_us and RSCOSWORTH. Welcome also to blueeagle and Lewis_1, both returning after missing out in 2021, and TheFatGooner making his second consecutive appeance in the competiton. Special mention must also go to Pinault_noir in his inaugural season in the UCL.
Qualifiers

Basic stuff
As always, there will be no first-to-post tie-break deciders, only most spot-ons. However, remember you are only allowed one exact match prediction with each one of your group members for the Round of 16 Group stage (1st and 2nd legs combined), so first to post may be a factor in this regard.
If I spot too many exact matches I will do my best to give you advance warning, but please don't rely on me to do this - you must watch this one yourselves too.
3pts for a spot-on result, 1pt for the correct outcome (home win, draw or away win). All predictions are the result at the end of normal time, extra-time and/or penalties will not count. Top two from each Group go through.
Quarter-finals
The Group qualifiers will then form two mini-leagues of 4, and play off against each other predicting all of the Quarter-final matches. Mini-leagues will be comprised as follows: Winner A, Runner-Up B, Winner C, Runner-up D and Runner-up A, Winner B, Runner-up C, Winner D.
Semi-finals
The top two from each mini-league will then be drawn from a hat to play off in head-to-head matches, all predicting the semi-final matches. Should I be fortunate enough to be involved in the competition at this stage, a neutral third party will be found to do the draw.
Final
The finalists will play-off predicting the Champions League Final, this will include predicting different aspects of the game, not just the score.
…and finally, tie-breaks
If a tie-break is needed in the Round of 16 or Quarter-finals, there will be two options:
Default Option A: Predict the attendance at the very next U's game on the Saturday after conclusion of the round (e.g. next U's game after the Round of 16 is U's v Forest Green Rovers on Sat 19th March); or
Alternate Option B: In the hopefully unlikely event we should end up in another lockdown, predict the total number of goals scored in League 2 on that Saturday.
Only those involved in the tie-break will need to make a prediction, so this can be done any time before kick-off(s) on that Saturday. The closest to the right amount (above or below) will win the tie-break in their Group, so first to post will count here if necessary.
Tie-break rules for the Semi-final and Final will be announced in due course.

Plenty of points scored to report on, as follows.
Group A
With an impressive 5pts from this week, including the Atletico Madrid v Man U 1-1 draw spot-on, RSCOSWORTH takes a solid lead at the top of the group on 10pts. However, as far as scoring in Week 2 is concerned, credit to burnsieespana for getting both of Tuesday's result spot-on, and the Benfica v Ajax draw outcome tonight, to significantly close the gap on 8pts. Although not completely out of the qualification race, concordman's solitary outcome this week, the Chelsea home win, leaves him on 4pts and a lot to do.
Group B
Although Tropical_Us didn't manage to change his Benfica v Ajax prediction in time, he still picked up an equally impressive 7pts this week to go clear top of the group on 9pts (and if it's any consolation, any away win for Ajax would have been a zero). At the moment, this group is all about the race for the second qualifying place, and blueeagle helped his cause with the Chelsea home win for a total of 4pts. However, despite his Week 1 no-show, Pinault_noir got right back into contention with the Villarreal 1 Juventus 1 draw spot-on for 3pts, to close the gap to just a solitary point.
edit: apologies Tropical_Us, I missed your edited score for the Benfica game - still zero points though.
Group C
Great to see Gerry persevere with the UCL and his perseverance was rewarded with the Chelsea victory spot-on and the Benfica v Ajax outcome, to go joint top in the group on 6pts. He was matched by yours truly, with the Chelsea outcome and Villarreal v Juventus draw spot-on for the same 6pts. A barren Week 2 for MrHappy2 with just the Chelsea home win outcome, leaves him 4pts adrift on 2pts.
Group D
An impressive Week 2 for Lewis_1 with both the Chelsea victory and the Man U draw spot on, puts him top of the group on 8pts. The real battle however is currently for second place, with TheFatGooner edging it on 5pts courtesy of the Chelsea win spot-on. He's matched on 5pts by BFG with three of the four outcomes this week, only behind on the spot-on count.

Liverpool 0 Inter Milan 1
Bayern Munich destroy FC [insert corporate sponsor name here] Salzburg 7-1 to breeze into the quarter-finals. Liverpool made harder work of it, but go through 2-1 on aggregate, despite losing 0-1 tonight at Anfield against Inter Milan.
Pretty much an across the board solitary point for almost everyone who predicted Bayern's victory but missed out on Liverpool's defeat. However, special mention (and commiserations) must go to Pinault_noir, the only one with the courage to predict that someone would score seven tonight, just not Bayern Munich unfortunately. | |
