U'sual Champions League Final 19:12 - May 27 with 882 viewswessex_exile

Here goes for the U'sual Champions League 2021 final, between concordman and Daniel, and of course the 3rd place play-off between Sector4 and mfb_cufc.

The Champions League Final
29/5/2021: Manchester City v Chelsea (rescheduled for Porto to ease travel restrictions - kick-off 8pm)

Predictions
As usual, there are nine categories to predict, so please either post here or PM me your predictions, and I will reveal when I have them all. For categories C-H, as usual there will be 2pts if spot-on, and one point for whoever is closest (or 1pt each if equidistant). Deadline for all predictions is kick-off at 8pm on Saturday.

 A) Result - 3pts spot-on, 1pt for the outcome;
 B) Goal scorer - pick one, get 1pt for each goal they score (including own goals);
 C) Attempts on target - 2pts for spot-on, 1pt if closest;
 D) Attempts off target - ditto;
 E) Corners - ditto;
 F) Fouls - ditto;
 G) Yellow cards - ditto (a straight red is not two yellows); and
 H) Red cards - ditto (two yellows will count as two yellows and one red).
 TB) The tie-break is the minute for the first substitution, closest (either side) wins. In the unlikely event that there are no substitutions, this will be counted as 0 (zero) minutes. Substitutions in injury-time will be counted as 45' or 90'.

The small print
Note that for the final alone, a spot-on result will not count towards the tie-break, it's just the total points scored.

All predictions will be for the normal time match, extra-time or penalties will not count. The only questions you can't match exactly on are (A), (B) and (TB), so whilst there is no other advantage to predicting first, predicting last may mean having to change one or more of those predictions.

All stats will be taken from the BBC Sport website, just in case there are discrepancies elsewhere.

Good luck everyone!

All logged safe and sound concordman - no extra points for the splits between teams, just the overall total, but your attention to detail is exemplary. It'll be interesting to see how they pan out.

All good Mick and Daniel - just waiting on Sector4 now.

Just over 20 minutes to go, and no sign of Sector4. If he doesn't turn up, although 3rd place will go to mfb_cufc, I'll run it with some Excel random number generators, just for a bit of fun.

Half-time, and the score is:

Man City 0 Chelsea 1 (Havertz 42')

In the U'sual Champions League final Daniel holds a narrow 1pt lead on 5 points over concordman, on 4 points. Both predicted a Man City win, so Chelsea aren't doing them any favours at the moment.

In the 3rd place play-off, mfb_cufc has already won, but he's still romping home against the Excel AI, on 8 points, including the Chelsea 1-0 lead spot-on. Excel AI is making a decent fist of it though, on four points thanks to a random number generator.

U'sual Champions League Final on 22:37 - May 29 with 764 viewswessex_exile

The Champions League Final result is:
Manchester City 0 Chelsea 1 (Havertz 42')
A single goal from Havertz, assist from Mount, wins it for Chelsea, in a match that they may not have dominated possession, but they certainly dominated in every other respect.

The U'sual Champions League Final

In the match that really counted, concordman came from behind at half-time to beat Daniel 6-4 at the final whistle and win the U'sual Champions League Final. Losing finalist in 2016, quarter-finalist in 2018 and 2020, concordman has now finally added the U'sual Champions League trophy to his resumé. He did it with spot-ons for attempts off-target (11) and red cards (0) and closest points for corners (4) and fouls (27). It was desperately close though, one more speculative off-target attempt on goal from either side would have handed the trophy to Daniel, qualifier in 2011, 2018 and 2020, and semi-finalist in 2012.

The U'sual Champions League 3rd place play-off

With a no-show from Sector4, mfb_cufc already had his hands on the 3rd place trophy, but I pitted him against Bill Gates and his army of uber-nerds, and he still smashed it out of the park, winning the consolation prize emphatically 9-3. Twice winner in 2011 and 2013, runner-up in 2017, semi-finalist in 2018 and quarter-finalist in 2014, 2015, and 2019, his performance tonight included getting the Chelsea 1-0 victory spot-on, as well as points scored in pretty much every other category.

As the celebrations in Porto continue, massive congratulations to concordman as our new U'sual Champions League winner!

Thank you all for taking part, it's been a blast!
