After a most horrendous week, the U’s embark on two home matches which could define our season. 6 points must therefore be the target. JD could give home debuts to the latest loan signings — John Sullivan and Josh Thompson. Sullivan has already had to pick the ball out of the net three times, but his shot stopping was not the issue. A gift following indecision from the ineffectual referee and his assistant and Michael Rose standing in no man’s land appealing forlornly for offside twice, a penalty which he was whiskers away from saving and a goal line header which again could be laid at the defender’s door. Bury have hit some decent form recently, again illustrating that this league is wide open and anyone can defeat anyone else in a one off game. Almost to prove the point it was interesting to note that Tranmere lost again at home tonight to the MK Dons. As I said when we capitulated to them much earlier in the season, they were somewhat overrated and remain so. JD has lost one influential player in Sanchez Watt and his Arsenal colleague Craig Eastmond narrowly missed out on the player of the month award as did JD for the Manager of the Month. Though why the October award is made on the 16th of the following month is beyond me. Anyway the so called Manager's curse can not therefore be laid at JD's door although the last week has perhaps seen JD walk under ladders and run over black cats, such has been the misfortune to befall the U's. Kem Izzet is on the way back but Saturday is too soon for the club captain to be risked. JD will be looking to bounce back and will field a strong but slightly changed team in a 4-3-3 formation: Sullivan Wilson Thompson Eastman Coker Eastmond Bean Woody Hendo Ibehre Sears Subs: White, Rose, Magnus, O’Toole, Morrison, Cousins, Massey JD will perhaps rest Rose and Magnus in a new look back four, but the playing the ball from the goalkeeper to the defenders with the pass and move Gunners style will remain unchanged. The outstanding Eastmond will look to release the wingers and interchange with Jabo Ibehre. When changes have to be made, I would like to see O’Toole join up with Marcus Bean in midfield. Now it is about time that Woody picked up his game and started to show us the silky skills that he is capable of. This team is too good to languish in mid table, we need to regain the winning habit and quickly. A few goals in Bury's net will certainly shake them up. I look forward to Noah's match report in due course. Up the U’s | |
