Budget?
at 15:18 15 Feb 2026

I think Capology, on which those wage numbers are based, is BS.

I don't believe for a second that Kolli is on £26k pa, that Ben Hamer is on the same as Richard Kone, that Varane is on less than 2/3 what Esq is on, or that JCS is on less than Poku...Or that Edwards, Saito, and Poku only have 1 year left on their contracts.

Was just thinking about the team, and injuries means it picks itself. It's going to be same again unless there are more secret injuries because there are no other options:

Kone
Smyth Vale Saito
Hayden Madsen
RND Cook Dunne Edwards
Walsh

I would just prefer to swap Smyth and Saito around because I too believe PS is better on the right. Mbengue on the bench. Kolli, Morgan and Bennie to come on after 70.

I drove for years, decades even. Often doing 25 or 75. Not proud of that, just sloppy. Never had a speeding ticket. Or a parking ticket. Got a new car 3 months ago and it seems to be cursed. Suddenly a ticket for 26mph, and another for driving on a road that's prohibited between 2:30 and 3:30, and a parking ticket while my parking permit was being renewed (challenged). 2 out of 3 are a fair cop...but I haven't been doing anything different...

In the circumstances it may be for the best and also appears to show respect to Sam’s wishes. I thought at the time Hayden was a luxury we didn’t need, and it’s a shame Varane got injured / those bids didn’t arrive…because I’d be happier being without either of them than being without Sam.

Just pointing out the irony of saying we look abroad or at league 1 because we don't expect to be able to afford proven championship players...while offloading a former player of the year, captain, with a good availability record, height, approaching 200 games in the championship, and years left to give.

Good points leading to the conclusion that picking up someone like Sam Field would be great business for another championship club in our situation.

So...

Kone
Smyth Vale Saito
Madsen Hayden
RND Cook Dunne Mbengue / Edwards
Walsh

A decent XI but not too much on the bench to change up the attack...just Kolli, Morgan and Bennie?

I guess there's the Esq and Adamson non-inverse (verse?) wing experiment too which was ok for 10 mins when they did it once before.

It would be nice if it was a grown up conversation with Sam along the lines of 'we as a club think you're great, we respect what you've done, how you've behaved and want to help you get what you need. We back the manager now and he's not using you, but if anything changes we'd love you to be involved in the future'.

Smyth's effectiveness has decreased since he's been needed on the left. He's not good enough to cut inside at this level despite doing so well for LO. So it just becomes a culdesac. On the right he can get past his man on the outside.

It did very much feel like the ref had taken against him yesterday, though. Going to ground so frequently, and those couple of off the ball elbows over the last couple years will make officials less sympathetic.

January transfer rumours
at 19:06 1 Feb 2026

We have a huge squad. I wonder if we'll have any outs. Nardi would seem the most likely. Hopefully not Field. Maybe Adamson.

Maybe a loan for a Wilkie, Pearman, or Alemayehu.

We haven't signed an australian or a little winger/10 for a few days, so maybe get another one of those in. Certainly not a specialist rightback.

I haven't rated Bennie - too mediocre on too many measures and I'm not sure what he's 'for' - but I was pleased with what I saw yesterday. There was some really intelligent movement and he looked more confident and aggressive.

We got money for him!!!!!!??!!

Some moments of fun from Michi, mainly off the pitch. First goal was a good excuse to say ‘deft’. Wish him the best of luck.

Back then the qpr bond offered a premium above what you could get elsewhere which reflected relative risk. This time around it doesn’t really.
