Leeds have further problems for Hull game
Leeds have further problems for Hull game
Tuesday, 16th Aug 2011 17:52 by Tim Whelan

As if we didn’t have enough to worry about with injuries and suspensions, Simon Grayson has said that a couple of other players are doubtful for the visit of Hull City.

We already knew about the injuries to the striking trio of Paynter, Somma and Becchio, and that Gradel and Howson were suspended after being sent off on Saturday. But now Simon Grayson has told the official site that a couple of other players might not be fit, though he’s remaining tight-lipped as to who it is. "One or two players have come out with some niggles and knocks and didn't train on Monday. I'm not saying who is doubtful. We'll put out the best team we have available, but we have one or two concerns.”

So it’s fortunate that we managed to complete the loan signing of Andy Keogh yesterday, and out former youth player has gone straight into the squad tonight. Grayson said "It's no secret we've been looking for more firepower. He has a presence about him. We almost had someone last week, Andy became available over the weekend, and I like his work-rate and his commitment. I'm delighted to have him here”

Leeds need a result tonight after a disappointing start, and in fact it’s 60 years since we last lost the first three league games of the season. But it won’t be easy against our local rivals who always seem to raise their game against us, especially as the Tigers won a tricky away game on Saturday at Ipswich. Simon says "Nigel Pearson will have them well organised and set-up, but they can play as well. Matty Fryatt is a threat, he has a great record wherever he's played. The other players such as Adebola and Simpson, and the wide players they have are all good players.”

Hull will be tempted to name an unchanged side, but there will be competition for places after strikers Dele Adebola and Aaron Mclean came off the bench on Saturday after recovering from injury, and could be chosen for the starting XI. City’s only injury concern is club captain Andy Dawson, who faces a late fitness test on an achilles injury.

It’s not getting any easier for Leeds with difficult fixtures coming one after the other, and away games at West Ham and Ipswich to follow after tonight. But I think that we will at least get our first point of the season tonight, as I’m going for the draw, which should keep us away from the bottom for the time being.
