A Welcome Distraction For The Swans?

The stakes will be high tomorrow as the Swans travel to Stockport with a potential money spinning appearance in the 3rd round of the FA Cup on offer for the victors whilst for the losers it's the old addage of 'concentrate on the league' as the consolation prize.

Last season's run to the 5th round remains towards the front of the memory bank as the Swans look to make it into round 3 with most fans hoping for a money spinning tie against one of the big Premiership clubs if that were to happen. Stockport away does not hold the glamour of St James' Park or Old Trafford but it presents the Swans with a chance to return to winning ways after the disappointment of the last two league games.

With Paul Connor, Roberto Martinez and Kristian O'Leary all returning from their enforced absences last week it will be a different side that takes the pitch to that so easily beaten by Bury last weekend at the Vetch. Kevin Nugent will most likely return to the bench as Connor resumes his partnership with Trundle up front while both Roberto and Kris will return to the centre of midfield with Andy Gurney dropping back to right back and Sam Ricketts taking the place of Ijah Anderson at left back.

Goodfellow and Forbes will provide the width for the Swans whilst Alan Tate could well hold his place alongside Kevin Austin in the centre of defence with Izzy possibly having to make do with a place on the bench after his return to fitness.

Sam Ricketts and Adrian Forbes both enter the game on four yellow cards and will need to be careful not to pick up a booking tomorrow afternoon as one of them to either player will see them sit out the top of the table clash next weekend at Scunthorpe

Stockport on the other hand have no fitness worries and caretaker manager Mark Lillis can choose from a fully fit squad for the tie which they will hope boost their chances of survival in league one this season. Stockport currently prop up their division having won just two games this season and have been beaten 7 times on their own turf this term.

It is the start of a big week for the Swans with this being the first of 3 away trips in the space of a week and on the back of two straight defeats a win at Stockport will not only boost the bank balance but also the morale within the squad and the support.
