Gurney/Jackett - The Fans React

Andy Gurney - Fans Responses

i thought gurney was a tough whole hearted player who gave 110% WHO HAS PLAYED VERY WELL AT RIGHT BACK and was one of our best players up until he got throwninto midfield and had a couple of off games, to me he is no midfielder but a class defender who can easily play well in this division.

He has a great shot and is very physical and likes to get forward, I was present on the north bank when gurney had his slatings and thought it was very unfair.

I was just as frustrated with some of his passing but he was out of position and the team had no great confidence at the time, I do feel he would fit in well on the right, as Tate is not a natural right back .

In your article Phil you ommited to mention the powerful shot which Andy Gurney possesses. Someone said that he didn't look fit playing at Port Talbot; but one has to admit that he has had little incentive to work hard recently.

T H I S I S A R U M O U R - J U S T W H A T I H E A R D.... I heard he fell out with a number of players - Robinson especially - when they were losing the plot as a team at times and going missing in games in our lean spell last year... Seems Jackett took the easy way out and ostracised one of our better expereienced and more professionally minded players. I make no apologies for the fact I rate Andy Gurney. We look a more difficult side to beat with him in it. Apart from that unfortunate incident at Kiddy I thought he put in some very good performances when selected...Against Macc at home he was superb at breaking down their attacks pushing them back at every opportunity... Shame, I know he's not "one of the lads" but I think he's the sort of leader on the pitch we need to instill composure and discipline - instead Jackett prefers a pack of wild dogs chasing the ref around the pitch every time a descision doesn't go our way... There'll be worse refs than the two we've had away so far this season - better get used to it...

100% behind you, Gurney has the experience at this level, and i think its disgusting that Jackett has said we may need to consider a loan signing, before playing Gurney. I think we sould all make our feelings known on Saturday, "ONE ANDY GURNEY!"

I think Gurney was a very solid player last year. He has to play on Saturday or i can see us leaking 2 or 3 goals. He needs to prove to Jackett that he is league 1 material IF he is given the chance by Jackett. I think the ball is in KJ's court now, he needs to realise and be man enough to pick Gurney despite the rumoured off field problems.

bobojack, if gurney plays you don`t think we will concede 2 or 3 goals?

no, i think he is solid enough to hold together this depleated defence of ours

gurney will surely play on saturday. he is good enough - he has nothing to prove to anyone as his record speaks for itself ie a consistent performer for 12 or more seasons. at the age of 31 as a defender he is at his peak and is more than capable of doing the business on saturday.

i anger, it was at Kidderminster last season!!!!!!!!!!!!! they have only just finished pre season training and he should be fit and raring to go. match fitness is a seperate issue and he won't get match fit until he plays some matches!

Really, unless he's attacked someone with a banana, he should play. They are not children, if they have differences then KJ should give them a clip behind the ears and tell them to shake hands. I can only think there is something disturbing to be in the current situation.

Agreed - we cannot overlook Gurney at this moment in time

but you do sense that there is far more to this story than meets the eye. kj has evidently cast him to one side like a twopenny rabbit without an adeqaute explanation and if gurney is not picked on saturday he owe's the fans an explanation. i personally think that there is too much secrecy at times like this and the fans have every right to know exactly what is going on. exactly what is going on.

I'm glad there are some other Gurney supporters out there, have sometimes felt I was the only one!!! Felt bad for him at times last season, especially when asked to play in unfamiliar roles like in centre of midfield. I've always thought that he should be straight in the team, especially ahead of Alan Tate who may be talented but is a LIABILITY. Makes so many individual errors its untrue and is easily the weakest link in this defence. Plus I miss those Gurney free-kicks..............

yes it was only some morons who don't know their arse from their elbow who saw fit to slag him off but those who understand football and have played it at any level will realsie he is a good player who will not let us down. funny that the people who have never kicked a ball are the worst for being critical. be like some one who can't play the triangle being critcal of the London Philharmonic Orchestra i suppose!

for arguements sake, lets say gurney comes in and plays as well as he did when he first came here last year, do u think we could be looking at a back 4 of ricketts,monk,izzy/austin,gurney later in the season?

definately if gurney does well. he is well capable of keeping his place. unless kj has some other reason up his sleeve.

i just have a sneaky feeling he wont be picked. I'm praying that he is. Must also remember that he is very good at set pieces and can score goals.

i think gurney will start v doncaster but if not kj will need to come out and explain why. unless monk has recovered of course to take izzy's place.
