Brendan Rodgers is insistent that the Swans style will not change in the Premier League

Brendan Rodgers is insistent that the Swans style will not change in the Premier League

Already there had been some suggestions from certain media outlets that the Swans may have to change their style to remain in the Premier League but Rodgers insists that is not the case.

"Our game is to control from behind

"I have got big confidence in how we play. It was the same in the league last year — people were asking whether we could get out of the Championship playing the way we did.

"You just have to win games. Hopefully you will see over the course of the season that we have got variety in our game, but we always want to retain the ball.

"I understand you have got to get in behind teams as well, but I will not be telling my goalkeeper to smash it up the field if that's what you're asking.

"Our philosophy is our philosophy and that's what we're comfortable with.

"I think we can compete and do very well in this league by playing the way we play.

"Kemy was part of a team that did well for large parts of the game," reckoned Rodgers.

"He had a tough start with us, but he has knuckled down in pre-season and he gives us that physicality in midfield.

"I thought Leon was very, very good in there. He had to cover a lot of ground and do a lot of work against top players, and I felt we were excellent in that area.

"That's important for us, because we need to control midfield if we are going to control the game.

"I thought many players showed up well, but none more so than Michel," Rodgers said.

"We are very much a team, but you have to give big credit to him.

"He only came in on Thursday for his first training session with us. He did a little bit of tactical preparation and then he was straight in for his first game.

"You can see why he is the Dutch No. 2. He will improve and adapt to how we play a little bit more, but some of his reactions were excellent.

"He is so fast — the way he gets down is superb — and I think he will end up being a very good signing for us."
