Former Spurs star Praises Montero

For the second weekend running Jefferson Montero's name is frequent in the headlines after another superb display to help the Swans beat Newcastle at the Liberty and move towards the top of the Premier League.

Just a week on from giving Chelsea's defender a torrid time he was back in action today and doing the same thing as he created one goal and got Daryl Jalmaat sent off for the visitors which aided the Swans cause as far as getting the win was concerned.

Montero has been on fire in the two games played so far this season and this comes on top of some brilliant displays last season and is making him one of the most talked about players in the Premier League.

His cross for Andre Ayew's goal was perfect and left Ayew with the job of directing the header into the back of the net whilst Jalmaat received both his yellow cards for fouls on the wideman such is the danger that he presents.

And I cannot imagine that there are too many Sunderland defenders looking forward to next weekend after their torrid start to the season.

And Montero's form has certainly caught the eye of 5Live pundit Garth Crooks who has compared him to a real blast from the past in John Robertson, the former Nottingham Forest winger who was part of their European Cup winning teams.

“Newcastle have doubled up on Jefferson Montero, and he’s roasting them. The last time I saw right-footed player on the left who hogs the line so well was John Robertson at Nottingham Forest. By the time you go for the ball, he’s pulled it round and he’s away from you,” Crooks explained.

I'm not sure of the validity of a comparison with a player from 35 years ago but for now it is just great to see another Swansea player gaining so much credit - and deservedly so.
