Saints Eye Replacement For Wanyama
Tuesday, 12th Apr 2016 21:43

With the rumour mill starting to pump out the Victor Wanyama to Spurs rumours again, Saints could well look to cash in on the Kenyan but they already have his replacement in mind.

Saints were considering signing Idrissa Gueye from Lille last summer, in the end the Senegalese International opted to join Villa for £9 million and probably regrets that choice now with the Midlands club about to be relegated.

But Saints could be back in for him this summer if Victor Wanyama decides not to sign a new contract, all the indications are that will be the case and that Spurs will again be sniffing judging by the sudden surge in media speculation.

That speculation is being fueled from somewhere and unless Wanyama puts pen to paper in the next month or so it is likely that they will be resigned to move him on.

That will see a mixed reaction from Saints supporters, on his day Wanyama is one of the best defensive midfielders in the country, but the reality is that when he is good he is very good, but when he is bad he can be a liability.

There are those that will say that is more down to his attitude after being unsettled by Spurs last August, but the reality is that in his two previous seasons Wanyama was not always first choice with at times Jack Cork being preferred.

So although most Saints fans would prefer Wanyama to sign a new deal, it will not be the end of the World if he doesn't, he has missed too many games this season to be as much of an influence s he really should have been and his departure will not be as big a miss as it could have been.

Gueye looks the ideal replacement and it could be that Saints will look to make their move early doors once the season has ended, Villa will need to cut their costs next season with the issues surrounding the club off the field and could be open for a swift deal.

We already have his replacement.
His name is Oriel Romeu.
He looked strong and dangerous as soon as he came on against Newcastle

Gueye is a very good player. Wanyama on his day is great, problem is his day is few and far between not to mention the stupid amount of red cards he has had. Would never sell to Spurs though. Anyone but them.

Have to agree with Nick and the previous posts. On his day, VW is unstoppable, but he is also a liability. I suspect that Spurs will not be the only interested party if he is available, so hopefully he will end up somewhere else, even possibly abroad.

He looks very happy right now. Is that because he has next year's situation sewn up and he is demob happy?

Why not sell to Spurs? Their money is as good as anyones. If they offer the most then we sell to them.

He only plays half the time due to suspension. Plenty more fish in the sea. I don't think there is anyone who may leave this year who is as irreplaceable as players like Morgan or Lallana.

It strikes me that Spuds have improved a lot more than Victor has this season - will they really want him?

I could see Everton or Wet Spam coming in for him and, if he wants to go then we should sell. Perhaps behind the scenes they could give him a little contract ultimatum just to see what is really going on.

Gueye is a very good player but is tiny compared to Wanyama, so no where near as intimidating! If I had to take a punt on anyone from Villa (and it's difficult after the season they have had) it would be Carles Gill as competition for Tadic.

I have a feeling he will go to Man U to replace the thug Fellani . Its a good option for him because he is virtually guaranteed not to get suspensions
