LFW Weekend Championship Preview
LFW Weekend Championship Preview
Thursday, 16th Apr 2009 21:44

As the season draws to a close, there is still very much to play for as LFW takes a look ahead to this weekends fixtures in the Coca Cola Championship.

Welcome back to LFW Championship Preview and as we fastly approach the end of the campaign, there is still nothing decided in both promotion and relegation matters. But that can change this weekend, no more so than with the R's trip to Wolves, where victory for the home side will see them promoted to the Premier League and if results go their way elsewhere, they may also be crowned Champions. LFW Preview of the R's trip to Molineux, will be online soon...

Hoping that QPR will spoil the party, is Alex McLeish’s Birmingham who travel to Watford. Just a point outside the top two is Sheffield United. Kevin Blackwell’s Blades are looking to pinch second place but will have to wait until Monday to play their game, against play-off chasing Burnley at Turf Moor.

Cardiff’s excellent recent run has seen them rise to fourth and they can go level with Sheffield United in third with a win over Preston at Deepdale. Fifth placed Reading are on a major wobble and right at the wrong time and on Saturday, face relegation threatened Barnsley. Swansea still hold outside hopes of snatching a play-off place but they will need a win against Bristol City at the Liberty Stadium, with City, also having a bit of a wobble themselves.

Down at the bottom and it could be curtains this weekend for Charlton - anything other than a win against Blackpool will see their relegation confirmed. Above them it is as tight as ever - Southampton are on 44 points and travel north to play Sheffield Wednesday. Above them are three clubs on 46 points - Nottingham Forest, Barnsley and Norwich. Forest have the worst goal difference of the three and will look for a repeat of their dramatic win over Bristol City last time out when they tackle Coventry at the City Ground. Norwich face a local derby when they make the short trip to East Anglia rivals Ipswich.

Some catch up games take place net Tuesday night with Cardiff travelling to Charlton, Coventry take on Barnsley at the Ricoh Arena and Reading travel to Pride Park to take on Nigel Clough's, Derby, who at the time of writing, are not exactly safe themselves.
