More racial abuse, and we are sick of it ! STOP talking, take action NOW !
Sunday, 28th Mar 2021 13:33 by Keith Haynes

Once again young, talented Welsh footballers of colour are being racially abused by pathetic morons on Instagram and other social media outlets. Nothing is being done, nothing is being pursued criminally and we just have to sit back and accept it ? Not a chance, this has to stop.

We know football is tribal, we realise that rivalry is a part of the game, and we all have a real passion for our clubs and countries. However like Jan Dhanda two months ago another Swansea City player has been victimised, abused and singled out for his colour and ethnicity. We are sick,of it, absolutely sick to the core of this being allowed to happen. There needs to be war declared on these pathetic cowards, hiding behind what they perceive to be the safety of their keyboards. Swansea Independent is calling them out, and that’s official. Our staff here who support everything the club does to fight hatred are taking this up a level.

If you know of any individual who is taking to social media and abusing people because of colour, race, or life choices we ask you tell us via our support icon with as much detail as you have. We will ensure that these morons are pursued fully via a criminal path and when possible due to the legality of any investigation call these people out. This cannotmgo,on, this cannot be acceptable from now, this minute, this very day.

You either are in or you are out. Token gestures of disgust and nothing being done is as bad as supporting the very people ( allegedly) who conspire to promote hate of all kinds. It’s time to take this up a level.

The abuse of Ben Cabango
A Swansea City club statement read: "Swansea City is disgusted by racist abuse received by Ben Cabango via social media following Wales’ friendly fixture against Mexico. "Once again, we call on social media companies to take responsibility and introduce more stringent safeguards and punishments in order to eradicate such appalling conduct on their platforms. "Swansea City condemns racism and abuse of all kinds because it has no place within football and wider society. "We fully backed the EFL’s recent open letter to social media companies and reiterate our desire to see change. "Ben has the full unwavering support of everyone at the football club and we will work with the relevant authorities on this matter. “As a football club, we are appalled by this. No-one should have to endure this type of abuse,” said Swansea City chief executive Julian Winter. Ben is representing his country, he is a proud Welshman and it is a proud moment for he and his family. Sadly, instead of talking about football we are once again talking about this disgusting abuse that continues to tarnish the game and society. “Social media companies now have to act. Words are no longer sufficient — they have to go above and beyond to impose suitable restrictions and combat such abhorrent levels of abuse. “We will support Ben unequivocally on this matter and back him in every way possible.

Rabbi Matondo
Matondo, who is on loan at Stoke City from German club Schalke, used his Twitter page to highlight the abuse he received. "And it continues... another week of Instagram doing absolutely nothing about racial abuse," he wrote on Twitter. "My Instagram will get taken down if I post any clips from my games though... priorities." Show Racism the Red Card Wales/Cymru backed calls for social media companies to help eliminate online abuse. "Sadly, we're not shocked," it said on Twitter. "We are seeing this time and time again. "We echo Rabbi's comments that social media companies need to step up, do more and clamp down on online abuse."

The FAW have release a press statement but we want more direct action from the governing bodies and these huge conglomerates like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc who by not assisting the authorities to identify and convict these cowards are supporting hate. Not hard to grasp is it ?

South Wales Police
South Wales Police detective chief inspector Lloyd Williams said: "This behaviour is something that will not be tolerated in our community. "The force takes hate crime seriously and we have worked closely with those involved in football to raise awareness of hate crime amongst players and supporters." Our advice to chief inspector Williams is let your investigators investigate, you don’t, some of us actually do have a handle on how investigations work, and chief inspectors don’t at any level investigate crime. Stop talking, start leading, and do your job. Your talk is cheap.

if you have any information on any person abusing others or promoting hatred then send us an email swansea.independent1@gmail.com We are happy to take on the big business minded supporters of racial abuse and hate publicly, it has to stop.
