Shots back in the League
Shots back in the League

Aldershot were promoted back into the Football League following their 1-1 draw with Exeter City on Tuesday evening, after an absence of sixteen years.

We say an "absence" but its technically not the same club, after the old Aldershot FC went bankrupt back in March 1992.

However, a group of local supporters rallied round, and re-launched the club in the guise of Aldershot Town shortly afterwards and they began life in the Ryman Isthmian League League Division Three.

Since those glory days in the Ryman Isthmian League League Division Three, they have steadily progressed onwards and upwards, culminating in securing the Blue Square Premier title (Vauxhall Conference to you and me) on Tuesday.

Dale's last game with a side from Aldershot came back in October 1991, when a John Halpin goal secured us a share of the spoils. However that game was expunged from the record books, when they went bust later that same season.
