Agree with the first two posts,Papa was a Rolling Stone and Superstition (Living for the City as well) are two awesome blinding intros and then there's also: (The track works nicely as the film intro especially, as it builds to Issac Hayes and the backing singers voice coming in post 3 minutes):

Since Hunter brought up Aussie band AccaDacca, the real best opening rifts from them are:
Thunderstruck with a superb guitar rift to get things going and Hells Bells which is used throughout the world in sporting venues to get the crowd going.
The intro has to fit the song but a great song doesn't really need a particularly great intro, it just needs to fit. This song is just about 100% written by Lennon but McCartney wrote the distinctive little mellotron bit right at the start:

It's about halfway through before the singing starts on that version. I think I am right in saying that it only appears on that album as well. I remember waiting for it to come up on ebay a good few months before I was able to pick it up for a few quid.

The best guitar sole is of course on the excellent 'Reelin In The Years' Steely Dan. The best guitar Amp probably ever built is the amazing Vox AC30. The best guitar probably in the world is a 1954 Fender Stratocaster. But without doubt the best guitar intro in the world ever is this gorgeously clean sounding and stunning piece of work;
