After a quick count up that makes 27 eligible players plus Carey U21 for 25 squad places.
To have a better balanced squad we still need to bring a few players in. Assuming Appleton is happy with the defenders, we need 1 / 2 defensive midfielders plus 1 / 2 strikers capable of playing a lone role. We need anything between 2 and 4 new players before considering a centre half.

Depending on when they're expected back from injury there could be a midfield cull - Bridcutt and Stewart - but nobody would sign them. Ward will go (why he didn't get a couple of starts on the wing in front of Lavery / Beesley is unknown).
Strikers: Beesley is still unknown. Good enough or suitable for a solo role up front?? If we bring 2 new men in, I wouldn't be surprised to see Lavery go and Yates sold for a good price to Sunderland. I'd love to keep Yates but if he isn't going to be played as part of a front 2 then he's not in his best position. Yates' sale could finance some of these deals and he'd be replaced by players who have a better aptitude as a lone number 9.
