Well it is new because we brought the installment forward (via the bank). That obviously won't be available in future but it was money obtained now that wasn't otherwise available.

If we are having to let a senior player go out on loan in order to fund a 20 year old from Shrewsbury, then I would argue that the plan to make us self sufficient hasn't worked.
We have had over £100m in transfer fees, plus 3 years of parachute payments and now don't appear to have the proverbial pot.

They have no sell on value.
Loaning in players that we couldn't afford to buy does not help the clubs assets long term.
Signing 30+ year old centre backs on high wages isn't a long term plan.

There was a hope for Cooper to get us back up by the owners, they failed to secure the forward power he had requested last January then everything fell apart.
The loans Cooper secured I think were seen as convertable should we attain promotion but that all fell apart .
Well at least thats what I think...I reckon the owners gambled on us returning to the PL then were looking to bail | |

Potter talked about the glass ceiling of the PL being lifted after relegation, allowing all these youngsters to get games and exposure. We benefited massively. And then we put the ceiling back up.
Better for us to produce a £2.5m Swansea City player than a £15m Liverpool or Chelsea one. The opportunities given to loan players under Cooper has cost us now. Short on cash and players seen as ready to contribute.

Swansea have had a very successful academy and have 12 or so players in the 20-23 age group. Martin is developing Cabango, Obafemi, Piroe, Downes Joseph now Ogbeta in the first team. Only Cabango is an in house player.
Martin either considers the other 7 not good enough or not mature enough.
Cooper B , Cooper O, Garrick, Cullen, Whittaker Benda , Williams are the best 7. Under previous management they did not get 100 games under their belts which Martin mentioned.
Next Summer these 7 return. Garrick, Whittaker, Benda and the Cooper boys will be looking for firt team slots. There should not be the need for anything other than one or two elite transfers. This is the strategy.
There is no sense in extending the expensive contracts of either Smith or Hamer in my view. They will be replaced by Benda and Garrick or Cooper O. |  |

Parachute money cannot be talked about as free cash. Swansea city transitioned from Premier league team to championship team with "no debts " seamlessly. No calamities no cash crunch. Just a bit of "harsh medicine" as outline by Mr Levien.
Potter did not help by wasting £7m on John, Asoro, Celina and McKay. All drummed out by Cooper after the meek surrender in the 5-0 and Loftus Road. Three at least never played again. Potter sulked after his idea of spending £7m on Ryan Woods was rightly vetoed. He was the 'gods gift' at the time. Just like Hull today.

Risky poor signings made under the watch of the great HJ you mean, John, Asoro,Celina Mackay all brought in whilst he was at the helm....dodhy signings like the resiginig of Bony and Ayew...at least Cooper got something out of Ayew
