There's a lot of talk about how small our squad is but actually it's not a small squad, it's a big squad. There's ten professional players on the books who are to all intents and purposes invisible. These are the players who have graduated from the Academy and are on pro contracts but never feature on a match day unless the so-called senior squad is down to the bare bones and there are spare seats on the bench. Even then, the manager sometimes opts to go with less than seven subs rather than include the young professionals. The players I'm referring to are 31 Ross Atkins, 32 James Severn, 33 Arnaud Mendy, 34 Greg Mills, 35 Jeff Hendrick, 36 Kallum Keane, 37 Ryan Connolly (cruciate ligament damage), 38 Medi Abalimba, 39 Mitch Hanson, 40 Graham Kelly. Some of these players are, or have been, out on loan but, in all honesty, you'd expect them to be where Ben Pringle and Conor Doyle are in terms of squad status. You'd expect them to be pushing for a place on the substitutes bench, particularly with all the injuries we've had but, for whatever reason, they aren't. [Post edited 1 Jan 1970 1:00]
