Portsmouth manager Steve Cotterill refused to comment on his attempts to sign Blues skipper David Norris after his side’s 2-0 victory over Town on Saturday. In January Town rebuffed Pompey’s £250,000 offer for the midfielder, who is out of contract in June.

Cotterill, who claimed Norris wanted to move to Fratton Park during the transfer window, said: “I don’t want to say anything public about David Norris, and I’ll tell you why — because we never made it public.

“There was no benefit to Portsmouth Football Club in making [our interest in] David Norris public. I phoned the manager, in fact I spoke to two Ipswich managers about David Norris, and from what I can gather our chief executive spoke to theirs.

“There was no gain in us making anything go public. Whilst he’s still somebody else’s player I don’t wish to talk about anything. I’m sorry.”

Asked whether he’ll continue to pursue his interest in Norris during the summer, Cotterill said: “I don’t know.”
