Bjarnason Has Options

Town trialist Teddy Bjarnason’s agent Magnus Agnar Magnusson says that there are a number of clubs interested in the Icelandic midfielder and that he could also still have a future with his current side IFK Gothenburg. The 24-year-old Icelander is spending time with the Blues this week with sources in Sweden reporting that the winger is not in new IFK coach Mikael Stahre’s plans.

Magnusson says he expects to hear whether Bjarnason has been successful in impressing the Blues fairly swiftly, although a deal itself, which can’t go through until January, would take rather longer: “He was given the possibility to come over and it was obviously interesting.

“I expect a rather quick reply from there, but if they are interested they must first contact [IFK’s sporting director] HÃ¥kan Mild and then us. It’s a long process.”

Bjarnason may play for Town’s reserves in this afternoon’s friendly at home to West Ham. The Blues yesterday announced that the match would be played behind closed doors, which makes the inclusion of trialists easier with regard to getting clearance for them to be involved.

Leicester, Feyenoord and Heerenveen have all previously been linked with the one-time Celtic man, who can play on either flank or up front, while Reading and Cardiff are also interested, according to sources in his native Iceland.

Magnusson was remaining tight-lipped on the identities of the other clubs chasing his player: “I don’t want to comment on clubs except for Ipswich. I know who has been mentioned.

“[IFK] haven’t talked to me, so it’s mostly rumours but there are interested clubs and all of them are from outside of Scandinavia, which is always interesting. And if it comes to nothing, he’s still playing for one of the best clubs in Scandinavia.”

Bjarnason has another year left on his contract with IFK, who finished seventh in the Allsvenskan, Sweden's top flight, in the recently finished Swedish season.
