And On The Last Time It Happened........

And On The Previous Two Occasions......

Well if you don't then you will now. The year was 1926 and we reached the FA Cup Semi Final before losing to Bolton Wanderers. Ok, I accept that this is probably beyond us this time around but it's what history says!

Incidentally, history also says that if we beat Preston 2-1 in the fourth round (1961) then we will be drawn away to Burnley in the fifth - another possibility of this year. (I won't go into the history of the result there though!)

This year is now only the 11th time that Swansea will have appeared in the last 16 of the competition and of those previous 10 occasions, only 3 times have the Swans emerged victorious - the previously mentioned, 1927 when they lost to Reading in the quarter finals (less said about that cup year the better!) and of course the much mentioned cup run of 1964.

Indeed, Swansea's record of 4 wins in this year's competition is only bettered by the run of 1926 (6 wins) although it does equal the number of wins in 64.

With the 5th round draw taking place tomorrow, we have taken a look at the possible opponents for Swansea in Round 5 and our previous cup records against them.

It's difficult to know at the moment who to pick the Swans against. We have had a good run in this season's competition and maybe it is time to get one of the big guns, take the money and run or maybe their is merit in just one more win - the winners of the next tie get £400,000 - add that to gate receipts and TV money (be it highlights or live coverage) then it will be worth one hell of a sum to the Swans. I just get that sneaky feeling that we will see our name come out against either Burnley or Tranmere tomorrow and if that is to be the case then pray for a home tie. Swansea in the FA Cup Quarter Finals? It could happen - couldn't it.

If you want to see a full record of the Swans in the FA Cup then please click here - a new window will open with the information.

So whether fate says we make it or not - we are in the 5th round for the first time in a generation and we should enjoy it - personally I'd love a home draw and I'm honestly not bothered against who. The magic of the cup lives on!
