I Wish It Was February Already

It's probably fair to say that Lee is currently the hottest property outside of the Championship and I wonder how many of the 44 clubs in the Premiership and Championship are wondering if they have what it takes to prise him away from Swansea City. In fairness, many of them probably haven't. Which is a good start at least. I would suspect that most of the Premiership clubs would stir an interest but only a couple of championship clubs at best.

Huw Jenkins is adamant in tonight's Evening Post that money cannot buy Lee Trundle but of course he prepares us for a potential departure if a club comes in that interests the player himself. Nothing we didn't really know there in fairness so no indication of what we can expect one way or another.

So the question is there "Will Lee Trundle be a Swansea City player on February 1 2006?" The million dollar question, or potentially million pound plus question from our point of view. Well, of course if I could answer that then I have to confess I would be down the bookies now placing a bet on the destination, transfer amount and date of transfer but I'm not so I am here instead writing this article. And of course to the question I say the same as every other Swans fan would "I hope so" However, I do also suspect that during the next 10 weeks or so the phone will ring at Swansea City and an offer will be made for their main man. Indeed, I will be amazed if it doesn't. And what do we do if one of those calls results in the suitcase being packed and a new chapter in Lee's career being started?

Well, as much as we all hope it doesn't happen, the logical thing is to prepare for the worst if it does happen? We have to focus on potential replacements and decide who we would want should we be faced with the situation. We know that Kenny has money now, we know if Lee goes he will have more. So make our decisions on who we target to ensure we lose no momentum. Or maybe we target them and buy them anyway as a statement of ambition which may even mean that the list of clubs that would interest Lee reduces on the basis that we look more attractive than others - you know what I am saying.

We are currently top of League One and I have seen little over the past three months to suggest we won't stay there or thereabouts over the next six months. And this next couple of months will be critical to those chances - obviously on the pitch but also off it with the incoming calls to White Rock.

I'm sure I am not alone in being worried about the situation and I'll jump into the Jenkins and Jackett camp in that I wish it was February 1st tomorrow! And if you want to push me for an answer as to whether Lee will be here on February 1st - I say yes. Or is that I hope he will be?
