Roberto's Wembley Dream - Yeovil Preview

Roberto's Wembley Dream

It was Spurs' Ossie Airdilies who famously had a Wembley dream and Swans manager Roberto Martinez is now following that dream as he looks to take a step closer the newer version of the famous ground when Yeovil visit the Liberty Stadium.

Just two years back Roberto was the Swansea captain who lifted what was then the Football League Trophy at the Millennium Stadium after a 2-1 victory over Carlisle and now he looks to complete a remarkable double by managing the side as they seek to win the competition - in one of it's various guises - for the third time.

Yeovil will still be smarting from their 4-1 cup humiliation at Torquay on Sunday, when they saw a lead disappear with two goals from former Swansea player Chris Todd. And with the Swans triumphant at Huish Park just over two weeks ago, you would safely assume that we have the upper edge for the fixture - the Swans third successive home tie in the competition this season.

Compare that statistic to the FA Cup where we have 11 consecutive away draws and it's easy to see why there is some optimism that again we could be heading for a final day out next year with many supporters already fancying a Wembley game against Leeds United who survive still in the Northern Section.

There is little doubt that Roberto will tweak his side again for the game with the Western Mail predicting a line up of Doris, Rangel, Monk, Tate, Austin, Britton, Allen, Bodde, Orlandi, Duffy and Bussy which seems to be a very strong line up for the occasion and one that you would think is more than capable of moving us into the Southern semi-finals.

"It's a big competition for us," Roberto told the Western Mail "We've got a great history in it and we look forward to each round.

"There's a fantastic prize at the end of it. I would love to take a team to Wembley.

"It's a huge opportunity and we enjoy it as a football club. We know how important it could be and that's why we are taking it so seriously. We want to win it.

It would be great if we could give the fans an away-day at Wembley. That gives us the motivation to get through these early rounds.

"You never find the right time to play these games. But we look forward to our cup commitments and we want to win every game.

"Yeovil are once again going to be very tough opponents," he said. "They had a big disappointment in the FA Cup and they will want to get that out of their system really quickly.

"They will be looking forward to coming to the Liberty and trying to get some of their confidence back. I expect a difficult game, but we will be ready.

"It will be a completely different game here compared to when we went to Yeovil. We will need to adapt because they proved last year that they can be just as good away from home as they are at Huish Park.

"They will be organised and use their experience to stop us playing. Then they will just try to play their game and make it difficult for us."

Yeovil striker Marcus Stewart and on-loan midfielder Lee Peltier are both injury doubts for the Glovers.

Boss Russell Slade made four changes ahead of Sunday's FA Cup defeat to Torquay and has said he will make more changes for Tuesday's match.
