Fans Dig Deep For Legend Appeal

Fans Dig Deep For Robbie Appeal

Swansea City supporters may not have had much to cheer about at the Liberty Stadium on Friday evening as the side surrendered a ten game unbeaten run to Huddersfield but organisers of a memorial fund to Swans legend Robbie James had plenty to smile about following a collection towards the appeal.

Bucket collectors were situated throughout the stadium prior to the game asking fans to support the memorial fund which aims to place a bust of the former Wales star at the stadium.

A grand total of £1706.50 was collected in the buckets with a further donation of £500.00 received from one donor via cheque on the evening.

Spokesman for the appeal, Supporters Trust Chairman Phil Sumbler said "The response we had was fantastic and far exceeded anything we expected.

"We were a little wary about collecting on the same evening as the Children in Need appeal but the reaction of the supporters was fantastic. Everybody was prepared to dig deep once they realised what we were collecting for an our thanks go to every supporter that has contributed

"As a group we would also like to express our thanks to all those bucket holders that gave up their time prior to the match without whom the success of the collection would not have been possible.

"We have been asked to convey the thanks of Robbie's family to all of those who have contributed so far"

The appeal aims to raise around £6000 towards a bust of Robbie at the stadium and with the funds received on Friday night added to those already banked the appeal is now past the halfway mark within a few weeks of it's set up

Further events including a memorial dinner are still planned.

Donations are still welcome to the fund via cheque (payable to "The Robbie James Memorial Fund") to The Robbie James Memorial Fund, c/o 16 Llwyn Arian, Margam, Port Talbot, SA13 2UP.
