Leon Britton says he remains committed to the Swansea cause despite the interest from Wigan

The Swansea City midfielder has been linked with a move to join his former manager Roberto Martinez with Wigan weekend scorer Ben Watson linked with making the switch in the opposite direction.

But whilst there is nothing more than general speculation on the subject, Leon says he remains focused on helping the Swans maintain and build on their existing fourth place league position.

Speaking to the Western Mail, Britton said “Obviously the chairman has talked about it now and there has been contact between the two clubs

“I know they have been talking and, with my contract situation, everyone knows I’m free to talk with other clubs.

“But I’m committed here and 100 per cent behind the team. I’m giving my best for Swansea, we are fourth in the league and that’s where my focus is at right now.

“It’s a difficult one for me. I am still here at Swansea, I am under contract and I am enjoying my football.

“I’d like to think my performances show I’m still fully committed even though these things with Wigan are going on.

“I don’t really know how far down the line it is or where the talks are at, so it’s not a case of me definitely leaving anyway.

“I’ve still got five months on my contract and, before Wigan’s interest came around, my thoughts were focused on being here until the end of the season.

“That is still the case and I am still a Swansea player.

“If something happens and the club agrees a fee, then you have to go from there. But, if not, I am fully committed to the club and trying to get Swansea in the Premiership.

“Obviously Roberto knows me well,” he said. “So he knows what I’m capable of.

“It’s always nice to know that he likes me as a player and that he has made an enquiry to the club about my availability.

“And it the Premiership as well, something that has always been the dream for me."
