Let's Be Up For The Cup
Wednesday, 22nd Jan 2014 20:49

After the disapointments of the past couple of month's and the turmoil of the past week, what we really need now is the FA Cup to put the feel good factor back to the season.

It would take a massive swing in either direction to see us finish higher than 8th or lower than 11th, so we are perhaps one of the few Premier League teams left in the competition who can afford to put out a first choice team in the FA Cup without needing to cast a worried eye over our shoulders to another competition, be it winning the league or avoiding relegation.

This being the case now is the time to put out a full side on Saturday and show that we mean business in this competition, four years ago the Johnstone's Paint Trophy was taken seriously from the start and was a major step in getting a smile on the faces of Saints fans again and putting our name back in the frame as a big club with 50,000 Saints fans making the trip to Wembley.

Now we need something to re ignite the fires and what better than a good run in the FA Cup and hopefully a trip to Wembley.

So now is the time for Mauricio Pochettino to show that he wants to be known as only the second manager in our history to win a major trophy rather than one that could get us into mid table.

If Pochettino and the club were to make a statement of intent before the game then it would surely boost the gate for Saturday and create a positive atmosphere to take into the rest of the season.

The cheaper tickets for Saturday also give those who cant afford to watch Saints in the Premier league a chance to see the team, £20 for an adult, £15 for concessions, £10 for under 17's and £5 for under 11's should be affordable for many especially families where its usually an expensive day out in the Premier League.

So lets see the club stir up some action, lets encourage everyone to come along and create a real cup tie atmosphere and repeat those cup runs of 1976, 1984, 1986 and of course 2003, there is nothing like chasing a bit of silverwear, we took the JPT, League 1
and the Championship seriousl, so why not the FA Cup, we perhaps wont have a chance like this very often.

Spot on Nick. I'll be annoyed if first-team regulars are rested to keep them fresh for the Arsenal match. Given the choice between a win over Yeovil or Arsenal I'd rather beat Yeovil at the first attempt. I hope we put out the strongest side available on Saturday.

This is our second most important game so far this season, after Sunderland in the League Cup 4th Rd. We simply cannot afford to throw this one away by playing Hooiveld again.

I suppose Hoover will play with maybe Fox also ? this will mean will we need 3 goals to win this game. Could be tight.

This game has come at quite a convient time. Its a good opertunity to give Osvaldo a run out and try to get the defense organised. Whoever we field against Yeovil it should be the same as we intend to field against Arsenal

I agree, we need a good strong team for sat. I am bringing the family, 8 of us in all. We live in the Yeovil area, but I've been a saints supporter for 46 years. I was there in 76...

Chiselborosaint; I should change my TUI username to NortonSubHamdomSaint just for this one game ! Up the Glovers I say (my home town team) and lets have a replay at Huish Park (but Saints to progress obviously!) !

Itchennorth, I just hope this is not going to be a banana skin, I would never live it down! Do you know this area well?

chiselborosaint; yes very well. Norton Sub Hamdon and West Coker (& Yeovil of course !) and the surrounding areas especially. If you ever watch Yeovil Town play (which I hardly can these days being a Saints season ticket holder); its post game at The Lord Nelson in Norton ! You'll find a few local village Glovers in there always !
