Luton v. Leeds Preview
Luton v. Leeds Preview

Leeds have no new injury problems, but Dennis Wise is warning that Luton Town might be a tougher prospect than we might have thought.

Darren Kenton will be fit to face Luton Town after recovering from the ankle problem that forced him off at half –time last Saturday. Neil Kilkenny is the only absentee as he will be serving a one-game ban after picking up his fifth booking of the season against Doncaster, but at least he’ll fresh for the game at Southend on Tuesday.

It’s no surprise that Dennis Wise is demanding a big improvement in the performance compared to last Saturday’s effort, and he told the official site "It is Mick Harford’s first home game in charge and it will be played on a boggy ground. We will need strong characters because it is going to be a battle. It is not going to be pretty. Doncaster competed better than us last weekend, which disappointed me. Their desire was better as well. We've got to do something about that. Teams are doing well against us. We need to be brighter and work harder than the opposition. I need that little bit extra for every single player, and they know themselves whether they're giving it to us or not. When you win a couple of games it can hide people, but I'm not going to let anyone hide."

Our 5-1 defeat at Kenilworth Road was arguably the lowest point of last season and a lot has changed at both clubs since then. Frazer Richardson was the only Leeds player that day who is likely to be involved tomorrow, as that dismissal brought John Carver’s temporary spell as boss. Dennis Wise took charge four days later and began his clearout of the squad he inherited. And of course our former fun boy three of Blackwell, Carver and Ellis subsequently took charge at Luton, only to depart once the financial problems got the better of them.

As Luton are in such a chaotic state off the field it’s tempting to think they will be there for the taking, but Dennis Wise told the Yorkshire Post that with his former Chelsea colleague Mick Harford in charge they could be quite a tough proposition. “Mick's a good man and a very good coach. Luton have done well recruiting him because he won't make excuses, he won't blame other people and he won't blame administration. He's a fighter and his team will fight for him. His charisma can lift the place and lift the players, and I think he'll get them out of it. I will probably have a beer with him on Friday night and try to get him drunk before he picks his team!"

Luton midfielder David Bell will have a late fitness test before the game, but our former player Matthew Spring has shaken off a knock and should be fit to play.

It’s getting hard to predict our results these days, but I think this game will end up as a hard-fought draw.
