| Charles's gambit 08:58 - Oct 15 with 5592 views | Logman | What did people think of the near on minute that Charles put his foot on the ball outside the box inviting Derby on. I've never seen anything like it - I thought the ref was going to blow for a re-start I thought he should have gone long because we didn't really gain anything from when he finally played across to Jimmy at right centre back | | | | |

| Charles's gambit on 15:02 - Oct 15 by BrianMcCarthy | I'd imagine you're right. Advance scouting would have picked him out in five minutes and there's so much video of even pre-season games now. |
It’s messing with their heads, Brian and I love it. He’s a game changer at this level and long may it continue.
| Did I ever mention that I was in Minder? |

| Charles's gambit on 19:20 - Oct 15 by EalingHoop93 | For me, the best thing about this was how clearly it demonstrated the patterns of play. There were times when we could break the lines if the space was there, or float one over the top. Charles' passing range allows this but the team also looks so well drilled! I had a great view from the upper loft, and Edwards’ movement was clearly rehearsed. It came from patience, Morris grew frustrated and started creeping towards Charles, while Edwards moved further around the back into Morris’ blindside. When Morris eventually pressed, Ronnie was essentially a 4th midfielder. As the goals went in during the first half, Derby became increasingly frustrated (particularly Morris), pressed more rashly and regularly broke their lines. That exact movement happened 3 or 4 times. By the final one, Morris even looked over his shoulder as if to say, “Where the hell did Edwards go?” [Post edited 15 Oct 19:30]

Good analysis. While we're all in full on drooling mode (and why not - enjoy it while it lasts), movement like that combined with player quality through the spine of the team and in other areas seemed to be the key on Wednesday. I know Derby were rank but we've had so many years of watching other teams win where one of the reasons would an obvious difference in quality in 1 to 1 match ups. This season so far that squad, even allowing for a certain amount of injuries (though there are limits) matches up better against other teams and is more able to implement some of these ideas really well than has been the case for a while.
