I really resonated with Clive's description of people staring blankly at the pitch at FT, someone had also posted about it on the message board. It's more than just disbelief I think, it's processing the terrible meaning of what's just unfolded. I was only watching on the stream, so didn't even have to deal with the full force of it in my face. Mind you, i watched a funeral of a friend via a stream last year because I was overseas, and then the stream ended and i was on my own, when all i wanted was to go and have a cry in the pub with my mates. But anyway.
This is daft and overblown I know (it's never stopped me before) but there's a genuine trauma response to stuff like the injury time fiasco on Saturday. It kind of confirms and validates the internalized fears and beliefs that there is just something wrong with this stupid club - The Curse ((c) Bruce).
All supporters of every club think theirs has perfected the art of ruining their life, but we know that the awful truth is that no other club is as bewitched by farce and humiliation as ours.
Someone should actually do some kind of analysis to see where on the frequency distribution of inexplicable implosions QPR sit - I'd love to see it - but it doesn't have any bearing on the reality of the trauma because trauma doesn't deal in statistics, and the trauma is real.
Agree about Sinners, I didn't love it but admired how well made it is, some beautiful shots, and the use of music is excellent.
Edit: I need to watch this film again because so many people who's opinions I respect really rated it, and on the face of it it's a film that couldn't be any more my jam
It's a shame it was Leicester he went to, because it doesnt really tell us much about how good he is or isn't. As others have said, bit of a basket case club, squad full of player who think they're above the position they find themselves etc... Not an enviable job, and probably better suited to a more hardass no nonsense manager.
Id guess he'll move overseas somewhere off the back of this, meaning we'll likely never see him have another crack at a comparable club in the championship and so never properly resolve the question of So Was MartΓ Actually Good Or What?
I don't know anything about this guy, and can't remember where I came across it. But I fricking love it. Something about the lo-fi production combined with a really solid low end, and the simple fragility of the vocals. But I'm also totally aware that it's quite shit and cheesy! Sometimes that hits the spot though.
Sat listening to this in my car now, which has a decent subwoofer. Skip it to 2m30s to see what I mean, lovely vocal break followed a really gratifying bass drop.
I do a bit of DJing sometimes, and have been tempted to play it as an end-of-setter, but never had the nerve. Would need to be at a high emotion point, perhaps after 10 hours as the sun comes up π
Re Burrell, Dave Mc says on the WLS pod that Obikwu was originally lined up for the summer, so I wonder whether the plan was to sell Burrell then and hopefully repeat the trick with him.
Burrell's injury is doubly unfortunate in that regard, and highlights the damage that running him in to the ground has potentially done to the business model. Although I guess the counter argument is that we just haven't had anyone on the bench to replace him. Football: tricky business.
The argument against three at the back has always been that we've got a squad full of midget tens... But at this point with the players available that's a less compelling argument, and would resolve the LB issue.
So yeah I could totally see sense in say Mbengue and Smyth as wing backs, three from Field, Morgan, Varane and Madsen in CM.
I think was basically Dave Mc's point on WLS. Burrell has been great, but in the long run we need to find a way of getting Kone firing, which would presumably be more likely playing in a traditional 9.
Given that Burrell is injured it's frustrating that we look sticking dogmatically to the same shape. Wasn't one of Stephan's reported traits being a pragmatic manager that plays according to the game and available players, or have I imagined that?
People talk a lot about consistency. I think Stephan's point about being able to repeat a solid defensive display away from home after west ham demonstrating an improvement in that respect is a fair one.
