 | Forum Reply | 3 Games In 5 Days at 23:33 19 Feb 2026
In the 1973/74 season we played 3 important games in 4 days over the Easter weekend as we battled against relegation from Division 1. That was half of the remaining 6 games played within the space of 96 hours. 12 Apr 1974 - West Ham United v Southampton - L 4-1 13 Apr 1974 - Tottenham Hotspur v Southampton - L 3-1 15 Apr 1974 - Southampton v West Ham United - D 1-1 In fact, we had to then play 2 more of the remaining 3 games soon afterwards making it a total of 5 games in 11 days! 20 Apr 1974 - Southampton v Manchester United - D 1-1 22 Apr 1974 - Burnley v Southampton - L 3-0 A 3-0 win away at Everton on the final day was not enough to save us from being relegated as the first team to finish third from bottom under the revised rules that had only been introduced that season. Our replacement in Division 1 was Carlisle United! That didn't exactly work out well, they went straight back down along with Luton & Chelsea with Spurs only staying up by a single point and Arsenal finishing 16th. Top London club in Div 1 that season was QPR. |
 | Forum Thread | Clubs to vote on expanding the Play-Offs to 6 Clubs at 19:29 13 Feb 2026
The Football League are holding an EGM - Extraordinary General Meeting - of the 72 FL Clubs on March 5th to vote on a proposal to expand the current format of the Championship Play-Offs for next season from 4 to 6 Clubs. This would mean the 7th & 8th placed finishers getting to join the Play-Off lottery. As I understand it, 8th would play 5th in a one-off ‘eliminator’ game staged at the home ground of the 5th placed team. Likewise, 7th would play 6th at the 6th placed team’s home ground. After that, it reverts to the current format with whoever is left. Think I am right in saying this would mirror the National League’s current Play-Off structure. Anyway, keep an eye out for the result of the vote in March 5th - as I understand it, this is only for the Championship starting next season, not L1 or L2 which will mean all three FL Divisions would have different promotion & relegation criteria. Be interested to see what others think about this. |

He also has a World Cup place to play for and not that many games left to make a good impression. As the Sky commentator said today, Canada will play their group games in Toronto and Vancouver so how memorable would those occasions be for the players that make the team. That is a great incentive for him to stay fit and make a good impression between now and the end of the season. |

 | Forum Thread | Wolves HAVE submitted post deadine deal sheet for AA at 20:14 2 Feb 2026
After Strand Larsen's last minute 19.00 move to Palace, Wolves have put in a deal sheet to the Premier League as they complete the signing of Adam Armstrong late in the transfer window According to Sky Sports, Wolves are in the final stages of securing the services of Southampton's top scorer Adam Armstrong. The transfer window slammed shut at 7 pm, but the Premier League club have announced that they have given themselves an additional two hours to complete the transfer after submitting a deal sheet. |

Because we are owned and run by a bunch of spannerheads that couldn't run a drinking party in a brewery. Lost count of the windows now since we have dismally failed to get in a proven PL / Championship scorer that we have been crying out for. If AA and CA both stay I hope we pull out of the deal for the Canadian p1sshead - if we don't, I guess it is a like for like replacement for Donkey Downs who is now out on loan elsewhere... |
 | Forum Thread | BBC reporting Strand Larsen to Palace at 19.00 at 19:40 2 Feb 2026
The BBC done deals are reporting Strand Larsen to Palace right on the 19.00 deadline - so, does this mean AA to Wolves on a deal sheet submission post 19.00?? WHY do these stupid clubs leave things to the last few seconds window after window after window? What a ridiculous way to carry on... |

That's actually a very good point Grim, I'd forgotten about his lack lustre spell at West Brom - one thing for sure, the Baggies fans are in for a shock when they see 6'4" Strand Larsen replaced by a comparative midget! [Post edited 2 Feb 0:18]

Agreed Grim but I think Wolves know AA is not the answer this season, I reckon they have already accepted the fact that they are destined for the championship next season and are therefore already planning for that eventually. Buying AA now instead of joining a bun fight for his services in the summer delivers them a proven goal scorer at championship level who can hit the ground running from Day 1, fully integrated into the Wolves way of playing and not coming in at 9pm on deadline day in early September. If the figures are right then it is a clever move by Wolves as they have secured his services now. |

That would have needed the match to have been played at Man City's old Maine Road ground, or Anfield - had they built it in Toxteth not on the edge of Stanley Park... |

Well, regarding your last sentence, the next 5 league games surely offer us the potential to build on our last 3 results and go on a proper good run - Watford H, Leicester A, Charlton H, QPR H, Sheff Wed A. Cracking stat Dirk - I know some of us here in Clan Ugly can be a bit negative at times but that lot on SaintsWeb, they really need a jolly good talking to - not so much a case of glass half empty with them as just glass empty, always empty... Happy Birthday Tonda! |

Seconded. Peretz - two excellent saves from Jun-Ho Bae, his second effort that came off of the post was finger-tipped onto it by Peretz. Spot on re everyone putting in a shift - Sky co-com said he could have given MOTM to any of them. Next 5 league games surely offer the potential to build on our last 3 results and go on a proper good run - Watford H, Leicester A, Charlton H, QPR H, Sheff Wed A. |

A group of the London Saints met up pre-match at a pub near Eastleigh station and travelled together (back in time) to Portsmouth. No problems on the train from Eastleigh. When we arrived, a train from Southampton had arrived a few minutes earlier and the police escorting the group of Saints fans from that train were ahead of us. The knuckle dragging muppets from what I think was the BRSA club on the opposite side of the road en route were hurling pool balls across the road at the Saints fans. We were able to keep out of the way thankfully. No problems inside the ground, ripped the lining in my ski jacket style coat celebrating the goal, absolutely worth it though! We were about halfway between the goal and the big terrace, as was, in the stand on the right as you look at the pitch from behind the goal. I do remember there was a massive surge of skates towards the dividing fences between us and them but fortunately they were not able to breach the divide, would have been carnage if they had. Similarly, no issues for our group going back to London by train although as Salisbury Saint has already said others were not so lucky. Likewise, I cannot believe it was 42 years ago. Final point, a special mention for Lawrie Mac, as is well documented, the inbreds were racially abusing Danny Wallace & Reuben Agboola even lobbing bananas at them, and they were also throwing coins - with Mark Dennis being hit on the head by one just before the goal. When Jimmy Hill interviewed Lawrie after the game his first comment was,"We got a good result, £4.50 in small change and 2lb of bananas." Classic! [Post edited 28 Jan 18:06]

Here you go, 3 wins, 1 defeat, 2 clean sheets and most important for all Stokeies, Bruce played his part in a Potteries Derby win at Vale Park. Loan rules were very different in those days and Liverpool recalled him from Stoke after just 4 games. 20 Mar 1993 - Stoke City 1-0 Fulham 23 Mar 1993 - Swansea City 1-2 Stoke City 27 Mar 1993 - Stoke City 0-1 Blackpool 31 Mar 1993 - Port Vale 0-2 Stoke City |

Agreed, I don't blame Stewart. As a rule. two things you just don't buy: Players half recovered from a serious injury Squad players from a just relegated club Whoever thought buying Stewart whilst seriously injured was a good idea wants their head examined. |

Just read an article saying Leeds are considering sanctioning a move away for Piroe - 3 Championship clubs linked, Southampton one of them? Nah... |
