Lather, rinse, repeat – Report

It did make a difference when JCS was playing, certainly at home we had a little 3/4 match run where we looked really good going forward. I'd go with Ronnie and see if we can recreate that.

If the performances continue as they are when you do that then I think you are probably right and we might need to add an extra midfield player to the team.

Away from home is more where the problems are at the moment, I don't think we've looked any good on the road all season bar that Wrexham away game.

Last season we had 4 clean sheets in a row against Cardiff City,Watford,Norwich City and Oxford.

Before that we had 3 in a row in 2023/24 Preston North End, Hull City, Plymouth Argyle

Before that it was under McClaren in 2018 Nottingham Forest, Ipswich Town, Reading

I think since JCS last hobbled off we've lacked that player to bring the ball out and start attacks from the back, get us a bit higher up the pitch. We've been a bit hit and hope with the midfield coming deep to get the ball and we're struggling to build attacks. hopefully when Ronnie Edwards comes in that is something we might see an improvement in.

VAR in the EFL
at 15:41 21 Jan 2026

On the Sky ref watch show the other day they were saying VAR must come in, they showed 4 examples of bad decsions from the weekend. Dermot Gallagher agreed all 4 decsions would be unchanged by VAR but it should come in anyway. Absolutley pointless

If the club have an offer for Varane with money rather than a loan and we might buy him in the summer if we go up then Varane will be sold. I just think if anyone comes in with 1-2 million for Field they'll take that, not as if he is playing at the moment.

One thing on Field which some may not know, his appearance last night took him to 188 Apps in the Championship/Division Two in old money. Only Tony Hazell (202) and Ilias Chair (256) have played more games at this level in our history. he moved above Dave Clement (187) last night.

Jimmy Dunne is not far behind on 178, he'll go level with Ian Gillard the next time he plays.

I thought we were having a really good season upto Leicester, we've been a bit weird since then. Not terrible just some really odd performances.

I think we are 2 points ahead of the same stage last season so a real opportunity to have a much better season, the fear is we won't and with what we've spent thats not ideal.

I do tend to agree it's been overly negative the last few weeks. we'll always have runs of 4/5 games where we drop off a cliff and lose a few, we can talk about standards etc but we're a championship side and all championship teams do this, even Coventry had a crap run recently.

Stats can always be framed to suit a narrative. We're either 3 league games unbeaten with 3 clean sheets or one win in 7 games, Both are true and both paint very different stories.

I've quite enjoyed this season so far and I think when it all ends we'll have finished around 12th-15th with more points than last season which is an improvement but probably not enough of one given how much we've spent.

I'm not sure if we have to sell this month but if we do Field and Nardi seem the obvious ones

Dembélé new boo boy?
at 10:03 21 Jan 2026

First half an hour I thought he was our only attacking threat, some nice cross field passes, had beating of his full back. I mean it's a low bar no more than a 5/10 but he was more effective than the rest.

After that he was absolutely woeful, giving away free kicks, losing the ball and creating nothing.

I'm never good at match ratings but I'm not sure how anyone gets higher than a 5 in that game

The game was so poor, both teams looked hopeless to be honest. Conditions ddn't help but some really poor stuff smple passes kicked out of play. Not learning that a long ball towards the car park will just blow out of play but we kept doing it.

Up there with one of the worst football matches I've ever seen.

We've seen before as well if you try and coast you can quickly be dragged into trouble. The gap between us and 16th is only 6 points

I wouldn't write this season off yet, OK we are missing a few players but we have more than enough cover, the team picked Saturday was more than good enough for this level and is a chance to give a few kids a go off the bench

QPR, like a lot of teams in this league are a good week away from glory and a bad one from disaster Win the next 2 games we'll be knocking on the door of the playoffs again

Yeah I'd agree I'm not sure Morgan is the answer to keeping the ball better but one thing he does do, similar to Madsen is look to pass forward which at the moment for him means he gives the ball away a lot.

If we could get him a loan in league one for the rest of the season that would be ideal, the kids needs games.

Another great night for VAR

Long delays, a team walking off the pitch and they still came to the wriong decsion

I don't think a change of system will make a huge difference, we played with an extra midfielder last season and results and performances were not hugely different.

I didn't go to Stoke but find it odd if Kone wasn't the more advance of the 2 forwards with Kolli dropping off into the 10 poisition, that looks to me to be something that can work.

As for the team tomorrow expect Field to come in for RND and Edwards either in for Cook or Hayden but not sure what else he can change really unless anyone is back from injury

Stoke fans on QPR (whose side are you on?)

If we play that away every week I think most people, especially those who paid to watch it, would be pretty fed up regardless of results. I don't like it but I'd rather us fight and scrap like that for a point than roll over as we did at Stoke last season.

We do need to find a way to be a lot better away from home but I wouldn't go in too hard on them for yestrerday.

Looks like no direct train to Hull the weekend we play them.
You have to go via Sheffield

Yeah it would be weird if we all agreed on everything and this forum would be a bit dull.

It's amplified on social media now but ultimately everyone thinks they are right, no matter what the subject.
You'll get some people just saying stuff for attention but I've always found whatever the subject stuff people can have wildly different opinions on the same thing.

I actually find Matt and others point of view on everything being near perfect quite interesting as it's different to how I see it but I'm very open to the fact I could well be wrong and i really hope I am.

I've gone hot and heavy on many players, manager and ceo in the past and sometimes been right and quite often wrong. I wrote a glowing AKUTRS article about Mike Rigg once and I remember years ago on the QPR list getting very angry about the idea of Ian Holloway being manager and he turned out to be one of my favourite ever managers.

Anyway on the team news for tomorrow I think he'll go same as last week with Smyth in for Saito and I reckon if Dembele is out he'll start Bennie

yeah I don't think it's a bad thing to look to identify things that haven't gone well and do them better.

There is lots we can improve on from set pieces to away form and also to our fitness issues. I don't particularly want heads to roll and I'm sure everyone invovled will be looking for ways to do better next season and again the year after that. Pretending it's not an issue is not going to help us.
