I went from London to Cologne via Amsterdam last year, the ICE trains are fantastic as is the internal trains, unfortunately the trains in this country are probably decades away from European standards. |

But even one hundred quid on a flight to multi millionaires is nothing, the only people this will affect is the hard working people who save up all year for one or two holidays in the sun for a bit of rest and chill time round the pool. |

Would that be return or one way? Total Bollocks really, you get premier league teams flying internally when train could do the same trip, politicians off on their jollies and rich people jetting off in their private planes, but let’s hammer a family that dare to have two holidays a year. |

If the tax base is dwindling (which it certainly would be without immigration) while the retirement age population grows, who funds these things? And how?”
Here we go shades of Russian Bot here, can I remind you that my generation unless academically gifted left school at 16, started work immediately, my first tax code gave me a tax free allowance of £1275 compared with £12500 today, we paid over 20 P in the pound tax, once married the only help available was child benefit, there was no tax credits, or universal credit to back up your wages, you wanted more money you did more overtime.
As I’ve said previously by the time I get my state pension ( which is one of the lowest in Europe) I’d have worked for 51 years. I think I’ve contributed to my pension, don’t you? |

Don’t think I’ll be physically capable of doing my job at 70!
But all saying seeing as people are leaving full time education several years later than our generation then maybe there. Could be a sliding scale heading towards that age over the next couple of decades. IE lots of people my age left school at 16 l, or retirement age is now 67 so if you leave school at 18 it would be 69 etc. that means we all work the same length of time. |
