Absolute tosh that yet again drearily wants to turn football fans into consumers. A football ground isn't a 'good venue' because of the kind of beer it sells or how padded its seats are/aren't. If you can't understand this, and WHY it's isn't, I pity your soullessness too much to explain to you. If it were me running the club, I'd pack the seats in even tighter, bring back smoking in the stands (even for those who don't smoke) and reintroduce leaking corrugated iron on the Loft, just to feck people like you off.

As for our fan base, we had our biggest average home crowd last season since 2014/15 (when we were in the Prem), despite fighting relegation almost to the end of it and being dreadful to mediocre for much of it.

If fans really felt as strongly as some ludicrously claim that they're so disenchanted with the facilities they're staying away/not coming back/not coming at all, then they'd be doing the opposite and voting with their feet. And if you and others of the ilk think our crowds are somehow going to magick the way to 25-30k if we move to a bowl in Hounslow, I suggest you read some QPR history and go away and have a long think, but here's a clue: They won't.

Sigh! Don't you just love smart alec one-line answers (is it stupidity or wilful misreading?) that manage to miss just about every point you've carefully crafted.

Next!

I don't want to go anywhere just to upgrade our 'brand', widen a few concourses and stage social events, and I've laid out the reasons here several times why I don't buy that idiot Hoos' (and others') arguments that it's financially necessary for us to survive/be competitive either. We won't go under if we stay as we are, and could feasibly be promoted and even prosper in the Prem at LR. I want to rip out the seats, bring back loud terracing, and play with flair and panache with our traditional sprinkling of mavericks. You could call it back to basics, rather than onward and 'upward', or, as Jung puts it, 'reculer pour mieux sauter'. In that sense, I'd rather see us 'regress'.

A continuous relationship to time is intrinsic to the building of spiritual wealth, whether we're talking about football grounds, playing the piano, or working at a marriage. Whenever I visit LR in W12 (unfortunately rarely now as an Irish R), that experience is inseparable from all my other visits over nearly half a century. And for whoever wears the shirt, similarly, and at whatever level of mystical/quantum chaos, the games are molecularly inseparable from the performances of their predecessors on one piece of earth in one place. In short, a football club is not a moveable feast. Fans who don't get that are on the same spectrum as those who support overseas league games in my book. Personally, I won't stand for it.

Has ANY pro club moved to a new ground in recent years and NOT experienced a loss of soul in terms of the atmosphere/setting from their 'old-fashioned' former homes? I think of Southampton at The Dell (with its fab name and lovely tightness), West Ham and Upton Park, Brighton's Goldstone Ground, and that wonderful old East Terrace at The Valley, and shed a few inner tears for all of them.

But it's not all about me - it's about making new (blander/more corporate/more profitable) memories. I get it. But I'd rather be a happy nostalgic (literally, a 'sufferer for home') than a chairman (or even fan) who knows the price of everything but the value of nothing.

Interesting choice of phrase, Brian. Who do you/we think is/isn't a 'Cifuentes-type' player?

'No-one was near me and it was off a cross and I sort of lunged and my body kept going forward and my leg just stopped.'

Well, that sounds familiar enough.

Am sorry for him/us for missing the Euros though.

'Marquee' Rs signings who were (successful) 'statements of intent'
at 04:48 8 Jun 2024

I'm thinking, e.g.

1. Tony Currie
2. Mark Falco
3. John Spencer
4. Loic Remy
5. Djibril Cisse

The feelgood factor's back, so, feck FFP - don't you agree it's time for another? And, if so, who would you consider (unrealistically but tearing-up the-Champishly)?

Danny Ings?
Aleksandr Mitrovic?
The Terror Bat?

I'll get me meds.

Seconded - the cult of 'modernisation' is quite often a synonym for 'anaesthetisation'. What never gets analysed is the social engineering of people's expectations. If memory serves, I paid £1.50 or thereabouts to stand on the Loft in 1980/81 - less than a fiver in modern money. I'd roll back the years like a shot!

Good point, it's absolutely ridiculous! Heading footballs is a no-no, but smashing people's heads for a living with ludicrous-looking gloves till they fall over is fine. Go figure!

Sorry, I know this is a very ecumenical message board, but, really, a line in the sand has to be drawn somewhere! Why would you not talk to a consumer organisation about this kind of thing? I come here to read and write about all things QPR, not dive into the minutiae of other people's lives.

I (still) agree; it still really rankles. The way the professional football authorities (don't) deal with corruption is itself corrupt.

What a depressingly cynical/parasitic 'if you can't beat them join them' world-view - so why have an Academy at all on that basis!? You also don't seem to wonder for even a minute why ours should be so much less successful than others. In the meantime, your grimly chortlesome rebranding of JCS with an acronym that stands for 'joint-stock company' tells one a lot about your soulless polemic.

Personally, my own view would be the complete antithesis, but I'm an old-fashioned fool for (QPR) love!

Now that Moyes is on his way and their season's done, the Spammers couldn't have been more on the beach today if the whole squad literally phoned in their performance from the Bahamas. That's six of the last seven Prem titles going to Citeh - what a joke! The Scottish Prem is more competitive when it comes to their tinpot crown - at least there are two teams who compete for it.

FFP, wipe my arse!

The Andy Sinton Scream…….
at 14:45 19 May 2024

I like Sints, even if I think he could take a few more risks with his commentary at times - which is why he was such a good foil for the much-missed Nick London, who was a bit more fanatically partisan.

But is his 'scream' less a scream than a hooped whoop? Or possibly a yell?

But where does that analysis leave the likes of Taylor Richards? Isn't it fairly clear his brain (if indeed he has one) is still developing too?
