Lambert sale brings windfall Monday, 10th Aug 2009 19:38 Former Dale player Rickie Lambert has transferred from Bristol Rovers to Southampton for a sum in excess of a million pounds, providing a windfall for ourselves. There's been a fair bit of attention aimed at the goings on in Bristol over the last few months, as speculation mounted over a possible move away from the memorial ground for former Dale striker Lambert.
As well as wanting to see a former Daley do well, much of the attention was due to a sell on clause that was inserted into his transfer away from Spotland back in August 2006. It is believed that we insisted upon a sell on clause of 25% on any profit from a future transfer of the Scouse striker.
He left Spotland for an initial fee of £200,000, but that has risen to closer to £300,000 given a number of clauses that have been activated in his contract such as appearances, promotion, JPT success. That will mean that we will receive a fee that should be a minimum of £175,000 from today's deal, and that could rise further should he trigger any clauses that Rovers may have inserted in today's transfer.
