Saints were unlucky to lose at Ninian Park

Losing in the last minute is always hard to take, but at least Saints fans at Ninian Park knew that there team had put up a good fight, unlike in the game four months or so ago when a gutless performance saw them lose 1-0.

Unfortunately though they were undone by the two things that many had been predicting would be the problem, experience and lack of height and nowhere was that more highlighted than by the winning goal, a needless free kick was conceded and a high ball in the box wasnt dealt with, you just cannot give teams a header from such close range and expect to get away with it.

In truth Svensson was in a class of his own at the back, he was man of the match by a country mile and it was frightening to think what the score would have been without him, he rallied the troops and kept them going at various points in the game when it looked like the home side would get on top.

That is perhaps why the late winner was so hard to take, for long periods Saints took the game to the Bluebirds but they still lack a cutting edge, in truth a draw would have been a fair result, indeed the game was even for all but four minutes in the first half and a couple of minutes injury time, Saints had come so close to a point.

Hopefully this willhave gone some way to installing belief in the team that they can compete with the other sides, it is going to be a long hard season, but Saints can and will get the rub of the green and win games.

What they need now though is the fans at St Mary's to get behind them as 1,700 travelling fans did in Cardiff.
