Liverpool Reject Southampton Loan Bid Monday, 1st Feb 2021 20:47 Saints have made a bid to bring a defender South from Anfield to St Mary's on loan, however unless there is a last minute change of mind by Liverpool it looks like the deal wont happen. Liverpool have rejected an approach from Southampton to sign Neco Williams on loan. The Anfield academy graduate is seen as important backup to Trent Alexander Arnold at right-back. Wales international Williams has made four Premier League and three Champions League appearances this season. Saints have been trying hard to find another defender but have found dead-ends in their pursuits of Manchester United's Brandon Williams, Arsenal's Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Tottenham Hotspur's Japhet Tanganga. It also looks like Josh King will not be arriving at St Mary's either. So far it hasn't looked a good day for Saints as the transfer deadline approaches and it could be that they end the evening without bringing in any new faces.
