De Guzman Move Needs To Be Permanent

Jonathan De Guzman scored his 7th and 8th goals of the season on Sunday at Wembley to help the Swans towards their victory in the Capital One Cup Final and further enhanced the always growing belief that he should be at the top of our list of signings this summer.

Ever since he arrived on loan last summer he has impressed in our midfield and has gradually got stronger and stronger. Contributing goals from midfield is something that should also never be underrated and to have a midfielder coming close to double figures makes him worth buying almost for that fact alone.

When you consider that he has to compete with the likes of Leon and Ki for a midfield spot it is testament to his performances that his name almost seems to be one of the first on the teamsheet. Sitting in nicely alongside Leon, his play gives Michael the chance to select the three wingers or also give Michu the freedom that he loves when he is playing behind a lone striker.

Michael Laudrup made some extremely astute and quality signings when he arrived at the club last summer and De Guzman has to be up there as one of the best. Whilst it is the goals of Michu or the solidness of Chico at the back they are widely acclaimed to be the better signings but De Guzman slips under many people's radar because of the unassuming nature of his play.

When you watch him he doesn't seem to run, he seems to glide around the pitch but he has a knack of being there to finish some fantastic Swansea moves and also his work rate for the team when the ball is with the opposition is fantastic.

Losing De Guzman this summer would be a big blow for the Swans and one player we would find it difficult to replace. Personally at the moment I would make him our first signing of the summer - that is assuming we havent already done the deal in the background.

And now that he is a Dutch international interest will naturally also go up so let's hope we move quickly and ensure that De Guzman's stay in Swansea is more than one year especially as that's what the player wants.
