Middlesbrough player ratings in 4-1 defeat to Brentford
Saturday, 6th Feb 2021 17:16 by Phil Spencer

Middlesbrough fell to a heavy defeat after losing 4-1 to Brentford in an entertaining game.

An early own goal from Ethan Pinnock saw Boro take the lead before a dominant first half display from the Bees brought them back into the game through Ivan Toney.

Brentford then dominated the second period as several missed opportunities proved costly for Neil Warnock's side.

Here's how we rated the Middlesbrough team.

Marcus Bettinelli —4
A poor afternoon for the goalkeeper. Could have done more with Brentford's attacking exploits.

Darnell Fisher-6
Kept Sergi Canos relatively quiet for long spells. Another decent display on a disappointing day for Middlesbrough.

Anfernee Dijksteel —5
Played in central defence and found it tough . Struggled with the movement of Brentford's attack and was responsible for one of the goals.

Paddy McNair —4
Faced a difficult test in the shape of Ivan Toney who ran him ragged. A costly slip allowed Brentford to net their third on a poor day for the Northern Ireland star

Marc Bola —6
A decent display from the full-back. Defensively strong and did a good job to keep Tariq Fosu for long spells.

Sam Morsy —5
Battled well but was too overrun by Brentford's midfield in the second half. A little bit sloppy in possession.

George Saville —5.
An all-action display from the midfielder as he was in the heart of the action throughout. Found himself on the end of three good chances and should have done better with all of them.

Jonny Howson —6
Led by example in the middle of the park and was able to hold onto the ball. Found that his influence dropped as Brentford started to hit their stride in the second half.

Neeskens Kebano —6
Got his Boro career off to the perfect start as an in-swinging corner forced Brentford into an error that put Middlesbrough ahead. Went a bit quiet after that but encouraging.

Yannick Bolasie—7
A constant threat down the flank as his pace and trickery caused all sorts of problems. Put some really dangerous balls into the box which should have been converted.

Britt Assombalonga—5
Linked up relatively well with Bolasie and Kebano and found himself in the right area at the right time. Should have made more of the chances presented to him.

Substitutes

Chuba Akpom—5
Made very little impact after coming on.

Djed Spence—5
Had a torrid time against Rico Henry who used his pace to run riot in the second half.

Duncan Watmore—N/A
Not on the field long enough to really make an impact.
