ASLEF Striking 1st September
RMT Striking 2nd September
ASLEF Overtime ban 2nd September

Won't effect Transport for Wales but if you are travelling on GWR and XC trains forget it

Firstly I'm not knocking you striking, but are you making any progress at all, or are you in the same position as you were when you first started. It seems to me that you will still be striking when Labour come into power and it will be up to them to compromise or not.

Train drivers are already overpaid with 70 year old working practices including only working on Saturdays on a voluntary basis. Imagine if everyone in the retail and hospitality acted this way all shops, pubs and restaurants would be closed on Saturday.

Don't let the truth get in the way eh?

Totally wrong about Saturdays but agree about train drivers being over paid but because of privatisation that is the reason they are well over paid because they can and do jump from company to company for more money, if it was nationalised they would all earn exactly the same money

Seems like we are in the same position but 91% wanted to continue the fight so the fight goes on. Strike or no strike the railway is in a complete mess and will get worse before it gets better.

Yes it seems that way. A whole restructure with antiquated working practices removed and new procedures implemented for a modern railway network. It will cost, but it has to be done.

Totally agree but the railway needs a restructure from the very top and then work down from there , the rail industry hemorrhages ££££££ every single day and is a disaster. Covid was a god send to our company it wasted millions of tax payers money trying to "recycle" old stock just like trying to put a brand new jaguar engine into an old bombed out fiesta with no instructions it was never going to work then Covid came along and saved them and said they are not needed now and we're scrapped and sold for waste metal...millions wasted but nevermind don't tell anyone it will just go away and let's lean on the horrible lazy rail workers instead.....The fight continues 👍

Not as if the strikes are having much of an effect. People now just plan their travel on days when they are not striking or work from home.

Passenger volumes continue to fall which will eventually mean less services and redundancies in the Rail Industry. The union leaders are more than happy to sacrifice their members jobs to achieve their political goals.

I am of the firm opinion the current government will just ignore this problem and hand it over to the next Labour government. Whether an agreement will be reached then is open to debate, but neither the unions or the rail companies will get everything they want.

The train companies are willing to do deals, but have been stopped by the transport secretary. It's purely political and ideological by this govt. That's where the blame lies

The Unions need to get a deal. Busses and coaches are seemingly cheaper and more reliable. The Union chief job is to get a deal and save his members money not play politics.

De nationalisation was an attempt to prevent unions alway going to the Government to get pay rises as the know they have limitless funds. Nationalisation and industrial action go hand in hand.

I disagree with a few things the RMT say and a lot of things the Government say

But once again you are talking nonsense this is taken from the official government report

"passenger numbers are up 7 out of the last 8 quarters"

Carry on reading The Daily Mail and shouting at the TV my friend

Nothing has changed, because the transport secretary has final say on any private company deals with the unions. A strange situation i know.

No arguing that they are up in the last seven quarters but that covers end of 2021, 2022 and begging of 2023. You conviently
have forgotten they fell during the covoid outbreak. They are still considerable below prepandemic levels.

You should try looking at the facts and not the union properganda.

The train companies have not been stopped by the government from doing deals. They are private companies, and unlike in Russia, they are independent of government.

It is the unions that are stopping the deals as they refuse to accept 21st century working practices.

The part of the rail network under government control, network rail, have already settled with the unions.

Yes they have. They may be private companies, but the transport sec has final say on any deals. They prevented the one that was about to be offered to Mick Lynch and his union

Clearly you did not read the latest news back in January the Transport Secretary says train operating companies should make new offers to the miners.

Good to see Network Rail standing up to the Union bullies. It has announced that employees who went on strike will not be paid the annual performance related bonus. Cue indignation from Mick Lynch.

Make your mind up you said passenger numbers contuine to fall!?
When actually they are on the increase ?

That's not union propaganda that's the official government figures ?

The next quarter numbers for the summer will be out soon that along with taking strike days into consideration passenger journey numbers will be back up to not far off pre covid numbers 🤷🏻
